PAWA 254 is a hub for visual creatives in Kenya and the region. PAWA 254- Power in Swahili + Kenya country code for national unity. The space will bring together established and aspiring photographers, cartoonists, animators, video & filmmakers to work, learn and share in an environment that inspires creativity.

What would meaningful investment in Kenya’s creative sector look like? What responsibility should government and cultural institutions take in supporting artists?

Through 𝐀𝐫𝐭, 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞, we are creating space to reflect on these questions through film, dialogue and collective action.

We believe that artists, artivists and creative practitioners are essential to shaping public discourse, advancing social justice and strengthening civic participation. Yet the question remains: are we investing enough in the people and spaces that make this possible?

As arts based organisations, we have a responsibility to champion an enabling environment where creativity is recognised, adequately resourced and sustained, including the call for at least 1% of national budgets to be allocated to the creative sector.

Today Kenya observes Mashujaa Day, a moment to honour and celebrate the heroes that have shaped Kenya throughout the years. Heroes that fought for independence, heroes that advocated for multiparty democracy, and heroes that paved the way for constitutionalism.

As we celebrate our storied past, we also remember shujaaz that were taken from us too early; Rex Masaai, Albert Ojwang, Caroline Shiramba, and countless other Kenyans who were martyred for daring to dream of a just Kenya.

We remember you.
We celebrate you.
We honour you.

The surge of state sanctioned abductions across East Africa is beyond concerning and we must never accept this as the norm.

On August 27th, 2010, 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚 was promulgated after Kenyans voted overwhelmingly in favour of the landmark legislation. A turning point in Kenya's history which promised notable reforms in good governance, accountability, and the rule of law.

Today as we observe 𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐛𝐚 𝐃𝐚𝐲, we take a moment to reflect on the significance of this day and what it has meant for Kenya over the last 16 years. While we cherish and value the gains we have achieved, we also reflect on the gaps in implementation and ask ourselves what more can be done.

Let today serve as a reminder that we all have a role to play in upholding the Constitution.

On the 27th of August 2026, we mark the 16th anniversary of 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚, 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟎, a groundbreaking legal framework that centres human rights at its core.

Hailed as one of the most progressive Constitutions globally, we spend the next few days exploring some of the developments and changes that the 𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐛𝐚 ushered in upon its promulgation.

Today the Youth Serving Organisations Kenya Consortium has gathered at Mageuzi Hub to remind ourselves that meaningful youth participation is necessary for the growth and development of society.

As we gear up towards the National Youth Council Kenya elections, and ultimately the 2027 General Elections, we underscore that access to civic and electoral information enables young people to understand their rights, responsibilities and opportunities to participate.
