Kyoto Weddings was founded out of the earnest desire of its founder—a kimono designer—to revitalize the traditional Japanese wedding industry by increasing the number of weddings where couples wear kimono and the number of brides and grooms who choose traditional attire across Japan.
About 30 years ago, as uniquely Japanese chapel weddings began to spread across the country, the number of weddings featuring kimono plummeted. This forced kimono artisans out of business, and witnessing firsthand how they were compelled to abandon the skills and sensibilities passed down from previous generations—whether by changing careers or closing their shops—became another driving force for the founder to launch a wedding planning service specializing in traditional Japanese-style weddings.
Wedding ceremonies held at shrines and temples while wearing kimono are also very popular among foreigners.
