Le prime luci dell'alba sono generate dalla diffusione di Rayleigh, un fenomeno fisico per cui l'atmosfera terrestre filtra le lunghezze d'onda più corte della luce (come il blu e il violetto) e lascia passare quelle più lunghe (rosso, arancione e giallo), dipingendo il cielo prima ancora che il Sole compaia sopra l'orizzonte.

Misumena vatia, detto anche ragno granchio per il suo aspetto che ricorda appunto questo crostaceo, è un piccolo ragno cacciatore, che non costruisce una ragnatela, ma si apposta sui fiori (in questo caso un'orchidea) in attesa della preda.
