Mark Power Special Prize – Beyond the Surface: Winners Announced! 😎
We are proud to announce the three projects selected for the Mark Power Special Prize, personally chosen by Mark Power, President of the Jury for the Projects & Portfolios section of the URBAN Photo Awards 2026.
From 23 October to 8 November, at Magazzino 26 in Porto Vecchio, Mark Power will present a selection from Good Morning, America, his long-term project on the United States, alongside the following selected projects:
🎖️ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐲 by 𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐊𝐨𝐮𝐳𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐯𝐚 📸
Kouzmitcheva explores Belgrade’s post-socialist architecture through the human life unfolding within and around its concrete structures. Her images reveal how everyday gestures, colour and presence transform repetitive spaces.
---
🎖️ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐚𝐳𝐚𝐚𝐫 by 𝐅𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐨 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢 📸
Possati explores the changing landscape of Italian Pianura Padana through objects, abandoned places and traces of a disappearing past. The project takes the form of a four-part book, reflecting on memory, time and transformation.
---
🎖️ 𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐞 by 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐤 📸
Sank portrays the close-knit community of Burnthouse Lane, focusing on the personal details that give individuality to its uniform architecture. Colour and light celebrate beauty, dignity and identity beyond stereotypical representations of marginalised communities.

The three projects share with Power’s own practice an attention to places as repositories of history and everyday life, creating a dialogue between visions of the world rooted in reality and open to more evocative dimensions.
Mark Power has spent over forty years exploring the relationship between landscape, culture and social change through long-term photographic projects.
His large-format images move beyond documentation, exploring the space between reality, memory and imagination. ✨
