YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/ URBAN looks for talent and quality both among professional and amateur photographers, offering them a world wide platform from which to get noticed. Promoted by dotART, a Trieste (Italy) based cultural association with years of experience working in the field of artistic photography and the visual arts, every year URBAN draws thousand of partecipating pictures and hundreds of participants from all over the world. It is an always growing international contest, one of the very few that goes “over the boundaries” of Internet offering to photographers real visibility through dozens of international photo exhibitions. Only in 2019 URBAN realized 50 exhibitions displaying about 1.700 pictures. Behind it all, there is always the pursue of enhancement of photographic talent and quality.

Here’s what the Mercato Coperto looked like during Trieste Photo Days 2026!

Our exhibition at this iconic city landmark filled the market not only with photographs, but also with visitors and photographers from all around the world, bringing art and culture into an everyday setting.

Urban Photographs: Trieste and the Cities of the World features more than 600 images from the 17th edition of the URBAN Photo Awards 2026. Together, they captured daily life and the many facets of urban existence around the world: stories of people and everyday life, architecture, public spaces, contrasts, and the ongoing transformations of contemporary cities.

𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐳𝐢𝐨 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝟑𝟓 – 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

Highlights from the guided tour with photographer Marcel Van Beek and Prof. Erik Gawel, environmental economist and expert in urban environmental issues at Leipzig University and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (FZ).

During the 13th edition of Trieste Photo Days, Sala Fittke was dedicated to emerging talents, hosting Spazio Talent 2026 – Under 35. The exhibition featured The Future Was Extracted Here by Marcel Van Beek, winner of the 3rd edition of the Patricia D. Richards Legacy Award, alongside the URBAN Photo Arena (Under 35) showcase, also featuring a selection of outstanding photographs by young photographers from the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.

The international exhibition was curated by Exhibit Around APS ETS, in partnership with the cultural association dotART, and co-organised with the Comune di Trieste (Servizio promozione turistica, musei, eventi culturali e sportivi - PO Eventi spazi interni).

Yesterday, the exhibition from the 17th edition of URBAN Photo Awards officially opened at Trieste’s historic Palazzo delle Poste Centrali (Central Post Office)!

From 15 October to 29 November, ITIS – Azienda Pubblica di Servizi alla Persona hosts over 400 photographs selected from the 17th edition of URBAN Photo Awards. Streets, buildings, passers-by and fragments of daily life come into focus in images taken across cities around the world. Some capture the energy of crowded public spaces, while others draw attention to overlooked details, unusual perspectives and fleeting moments. Together, the photographs offer a varied portrait of urban life, shaped by the photographers’ individual ways of looking at the city.

Holding On by Michele Zousmer is the winning project of the ninth Trieste Civic Museums Award, an ongoing project exploring the solitude of elderly women in Romania and Bulgaria.

📍 Civico Museo Sartorio | Largo Papa Giovanni XXIII, 1 - Trieste, Italy

The portraits capture bodies marked by time, everyday gestures and domestic settings, weaving together a narrative suspended between memory, resilience and vulnerability. These women, often left alone after the death of a husband and the departure of their children, are the keepers of a family memory and cultural heritage at risk of gradually disappearing.

The project was selected by Claudia Colecchia, senior archivist and head of the Photographic Archive and Library at the Municipality of Trieste’s Civic Museums of History and Art, and Michela Messina, curator of the Civic Museums of History and Art and the Sartorio Civic Museum.

Holding On will be on display at the Sartorio Civic Museum from October 23 to November 8, in dialogue with the museum’s collection of ceramics, books, and paintings.
