That’s my first time posting something like this, please be good ✨

I learned most of these things the hard way, and I’m still learning.

For a long time, I thought that if people didn’t like a certain part of my work, maybe I was the problem. I remember being on calls with couples who loved my work but still asked if I could change the very things that made me love photographing in the first place.
So I tried to adapt.
It took me a while to understand that I wasn’t necessarily wrong. I was just trying to be the right photographer for the wrong people.

I’ve also learned that a full calendar doesn’t automatically make you successful. At some point, I had so much work that I thought I should feel financially safe, grateful, accomplished. Instead, I was burnt out. Having more didn’t make me happier. It just made me tired.
I knew what my true happiness was, but I was too focused on what I thought success was supposed to look like to everyone else.

And then there’s comparison.
We’re surrounded by incredible work every single day. It’s easy to look at someone else’s photograph and suddenly question something you were genuinely proud of yesterday. But someone being better at something doesn’t make what you created less valuable.
I’ve had to learn to come back to my own work. To my own taste. To the reasons I started in the first place.

I’ve learned that saying no is necessary, even when it still makes me uncomfortable. That sometimes you need to charge more, because your experience, your life and your work have changed. And that growing a business also means learning when something no longer belongs in it.

Most importantly, I’ve learned that this career is only one part of who I am.
Photography can be something I build, something I’m proud of, something that gives me a life I love.
But it cannot be the measure of my life.
Because careers change. Achievements fade. Today is here, tomorrow is gone.
What stays is who we become along the way.

And honestly, I’m still learning all of this.

For years, photographers have been taught to choose.
Choose a style.
Choose a lane.
Choose a definition.
As if creativity could be neatly folded into a single word.
But the older I get, the less I believe in certainty.
Because we are not made of one thing.
We are made of contrasts.
Of softness and intensity.
Of nostalgia and curiosity.
Of stillness and movement.
Of everything we have loved, lost, dreamed of, and become.
All of these things coexist within us.
So why do we expect our work to be any different?
The photographs we create are never just photographs.
They are fragments of how we see.
Of what moves us.
Of the way light feels on a certain afternoon.
Of the stories we carry, often without realizing it.
We do not photograph a world that is separate from us.
We photograph the world as we experience it.
We photograph what we are.
Maybe that’s why I’ve never been interested in fitting neatly into a category. The most meaningful work often happens in the space between definitions; where documentary meets poetry, where reality meets imagination, where opposing things learn to coexist.
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about this duality and how deeply it shapes both artists and the work they create.
I’ll be sharing a more practical post about it very soon.
For now, this is simply a reminder:
you don’t have to become one thing to create something true. You are allowed to contain multitudes, and so is your art. ✨

In frame the stunning day of J&C🤍
