💪 **“He almost died there” – Kekoa’s words on that night**

On Saturday night, May 30, 23-year-old lifeguard **Kekoa Tamale** was at Waialee Beach when he saw a group attacking a 15-year-old boy.

Without a second thought, Kekoa ran in to protect the teen. He put himself between the boy and the attackers, giving the young victim the chance to get away — even as the violence turned on him.

Later, Kekoa shared how serious it was:
**“We almost died there.”**

He has also said he wishes he could have jumped in even sooner, but his brave action in that moment made all the difference for the boy.

Today, both Kekoa and the 15-year-old are recovering at home under medical care. The North Shore community has rallied around them, calling Kekoa a true hero.

This is what real courage looks like — stepping up when it matters most.

Mahalo Kekoa 🌺 Your bravery will not be forgotten.

🛡️ **Protecting the Next Generation – Why Kekoa Acted**

When 23-year-old lifeguard **Kekoa Tamale** saw a group attacking a 15-year-old boy at Waialee Beach that night, he didn’t stop to think about the danger.

He saw a young person — someone’s son, a student, an athlete with his whole future ahead of him — and he acted.

Kekoa ran straight in to shield the boy, putting himself in harm’s way so the teenager could get away. In that moment, he chose to protect the next generation, even at great personal cost.

Later, Kekoa shared:
**“I wish I was able to jump in a lot sooner… He still suffered a lot of injuries.”**

His quick decision to step up likely saved the boy from even worse harm.

This is the kind of courage that reminds us what it truly means to look out for one another — especially our young people.

Mahalo Kekoa, for choosing to protect a child when it mattered most 🌺

🎥 **The Power of Video & Photos – How You’re Helping Solve This Case**

One of the biggest reasons the investigation into the Waialee Beach assault has moved forward so effectively is because of **you** — the community members who stepped up and shared videos and photos.

Your footage and images have been invaluable. They helped Honolulu Police identify suspects, piece together the events of that night, and take meaningful steps toward justice. Many of the arrests and charges filed so far would not have been possible without the evidence provided by everyday people like you.

HPD has repeatedly acknowledged how critical public cooperation has been, and it’s clear that this partnership between the community and law enforcement is making a real difference.

If you still have any videos, photos, or information related to the incident — even something small — please consider coming forward. Your contribution could be the key piece investigators need.

Mahalo nui loa to everyone who has already shared evidence. You are helping bring accountability and closure 🌺

🦸‍♂️ **Real Heroes Don’t Film Violence – They Stop It**

When violence happens, some people reach for their phones to film it for likes and attention.

Real heroes do the opposite.

When 23-year-old lifeguard **Kekoa Tamale** saw a 15-year-old boy being attacked at Waialee Beach, he didn’t pull out his phone. He ran straight in to protect the boy — putting himself between danger and the child so the teenager could get away.

That’s real courage.
That’s real strength.
That’s what aloha looks like in action.

True heroes don’t glorify harm. They stop it. They protect the vulnerable. They choose to stand up instead of standing by.

Mahalo to Kekoa for showing us what real heroism looks like 🌺

Let’s celebrate and encourage this kind of courage in our community.
