There is nothing quite like freezing a high-G top-side pass at RIAT. It gives you a split-second window to appreciate the mind-blowing detail on the Royal Canadian Air Force’s centenary CF-188A Hornet.

This scheme is an absolute masterpiece up close—blending classic RCAF blue with intricate circuit paths and binary data tracks representing the modern digital era. That unmistakable delta-wing whistle and the pure, unadulterated rumble of the SNECMA M53 engine! 🇬🇷✈️

Throwback to RIAT 2025 when the Hellenic Air Force absolutely stole the static line, bringing their legendary Mirage 2000-5s from 331 Mira (“The Ghosts of the Aegean”) to RAF Fairford for the very first time. Watching this French-built icon touch down on UK soil was a core memory moment for everyone on the fence line.

💔 Speaking of Fairford... the news of the RIAT 2026 cancellation hits incredibly hard. The summer aviation calendar just won't feel the same without the world's greatest military airshow. Huge respect to the organizers who exhausted every option, and here's to waiting out the operational uncertainties so we can return bigger, louder, and stronger in 2027.

Maritime patrol excellence. 🌊⚓️ The NHIndustries NH90 NFH (NATO Frigate Helicopter) of the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF / Koninklijke Luchtmacht).

Operated by 860 Squadron out of De Kooy Air Station, these advanced maritime workhorses are built to handle the absolute harshest naval environments. Whether they are flying anti-submarine warfare (ASW) missions, hunting surface targets, or conducting challenging search and rescue (SAR) operations from the deck of a moving frigate, the NH90 handles it all with fly-by-wire precision.

That distinctive naval grey scheme combined with the Dutch roundel makes for one incredibly photogenic airframe, especially when caught low over the water or showing off its lines at an airshow.

Mid-century luxury meets rotary history. 🚁✨ Caught the incredibly rare Bell 47H-1 Bellairus basking in the Fairford sun at RIAT 2025.

While most people know the iconic Bell 47 for its open-lattice "goldfish bowl" look from M*A*S*H, the 47H-1 was Bell’s mid-1950s attempt to target the upscale executive market. They wrapped the fuselage in sleek, streamlined sheet metal and enclosed the cabin for a more refined, automobile-like aesthetic.

Only a handful of these beautiful Bellairus variants survive today, making this immaculate restoration an absolute treat to see on the static line. Vintage aviation at its absolute finest.
