Dear clients, please read this carefully. This is very important to me.
I feel I need to write this because today I was accused of committing fraud by taking bookings using false images generated by AI. That accusation is deeply upsetting, and it is simply not true.
It has also been said that my photography has changed over the years, and that the images I create now look different from the ones I made 3-4 years ago. Of course they do. I keep learning and developing, and photography and newest technology keep moving forward. I don’t stand still. Every year, I plan something new for my clients, carefully choose the props and invest in beautiful, often very expensive items for my studio.
I start planning my Christmas sessions as early as July so everything is ready for December. There are months of work behind these sessions: choosing the backdrops, buying props, planning the scenes and preparing everything in advance. So yes, my photography may look different from it did a couple years ago. That’s because I’ve grown as a photographer and put a great deal of time and care into making each year special for my clients.
I have no problem at all with someone saying they don’t like this style of photography. We all have different tastes, and that’s completely fair. What I do have a problem with is being accused of showing one thing on my page and offering something completely different to my clients. That is absolutely untrue, and it is unfair to me and to the work I put into every session.
Every year, I show my clients the backdrops I’m planning to use before they book. This year, my clients had the chance to vote for their favourites, and the backdrops I showed are the ones I bought for the sessions. I wanted everyone to see what would be available and choose the scenes they liked. I did not mislead anyone or hide what I was offering.
The backdrop designs are created digital by the supplier . They are printed on fabric and hung behind the set in my studio. That is how these backdrops work. The grand doors, trucks, windows and other large details you see are part of the printed design. They are not real props standing in my studio, and I have never claimed that they are. It doesn’t take an expert to see that these are printed backdrops.
In front of the backdrop, I build a real scene using props. The photos I’m sharing show the backdrop, the set I prepared in front of it, and the finished photograph. You can see for yourself how they come together.
I have been creating this kind of artistic photography for years. I sometimes add finishing touches in Photoshop, such as falling snow or extra lights on the Christmas trees. I have never pretended otherwise.
And, like many photographers, I also use modern editing tools, some of which include AI-powered features. If a tired parent asks me to soften the bags under their eyes or freshen up tired-looking skin after a sleepless night, or a mum asks me for a little help with her shape after pregnancy, I’m happy to make those requested edits. No one wants to look back and remember how exhausted they felt. They want to remember how beautiful those moments were. These are retouches to a real photograph of a real person. They are not the same as using AI to generate a client or create a portrait from scratch.
The backdrops become more detailed and realistic every year. I understand that the finished photograph can look very polished, but that does not mean the people have been generated or pasted into an image. The families who have visited my studio know how I work, and many of them have returned to me year after year.
I am proud of my work and of the care I put into every session. I will not accept being called a fraud when I have shown my clients exactly which backdrops I use and have never hidden how my scenes are created.
