I am an enthusiastic amateur photographer with a love of the outdoors and nature and have a passion for sunrise, sunset, landscape, and wildlife photography. There is so much to learn and so much to see so hoping to strike a balance between the two. There are so many simple pleasures on our doorstep and beauty can be found in every moment in all kinds of weather if you just look in the right place with an open mind.

A lovely visit to Ardnakinna Lighthouse on Bere Island today. The walk to the lighthouse along the stunning landscape was so beautiful and I was happy to share this cliff top lighthouse with a few inquisitive local residents!

Mine Head Lighthouse stands on the dramatic cliffs of County Waterford, just beyond the famous Copper Coast above the Celtic Sea. At 87 metres (285 feet) above sea level, its light is higher than that of any other currently active lighthouse in Ireland.

Designed by George Halpin and built from local red sandstone, the lighthouse was completed in 1851. Originally left as plain whitewashed stone, the tower received its distinctive broad black stripe in the mid-20th century. It was converted to electric power in 1964, and a new light with a reduced range of 12 nautical miles was installed in 2012.

A big thank you to the local landowners for granting permission to pass through the private access gates.

Some beautiful views this morning from the Ardmore Cliff Walk featuring the ruins of St. Declan’s Church and Holy Well, the rusting remains of the Samson crane barge which was tossed ashore in a December 1987 storm, an old lookout post from the Napoleonic Era and a 12th century round tower.

Current view of the Narrow Water Bridge site (taken Sunday 2nd August). You can see the addition of a temporary steel support platform and scaffolded access walkway mounted on the large tubular steel piles. With the main steel bridge sections being fabricated off-site in Belgium, this temporary structure appears to be part of the installation works, providing access and temporary support during assembly. It’s expected that the bridge deck sections will be brought to site by barge before the leaning pylons are completed and the stay cables installed.

It will be interesting to watch the next phase of construction unfold.

Check out this short video highlighting a fantastic memory from this day in 2024 - what a way to spend a morning!

I felt so privileged to visit this lighthouse on Carlingford Lough. A huge thanks to James McArevey from Newry Maritime Association and to Sean Cunningham for making it possible. It was an incredible experience, and we were blessed with great weather. I’m not always the best with heights, but I did walk around the top and took in the spectacular views!
