Bien dans sa peau...

Literally translated it means “well in your skin.”

My maman used to talk about it a lot.

And I’ve realised it probably comes closer to my idea of confidence than almost anything else.

Not loud.

Not fearless.

Not walking into every room thinking you’re brilliant.

Just increasingly comfortable being who you are.

I wrote about this in THOUGHTS on my website yesterday — and about why perhaps confidence is less about becoming someone new...

and more about becoming more yourself.

I’ve been thinking a lot about confidence recently.

Which is slightly ironic, given that I call myself The Confidence Photographer!

Because I’m not someone who walks through life feeling confident about everything.

There are things I feel completely sure of.

And plenty of things that still make me doubt myself or wonder whether I’m getting it right.

Maybe confidence isn’t something we either have or don’t have.

And maybe it isn’t really about becoming more confident at all.

Maybe it’s about becoming more ourselves.

I’m exploring that a little more in my next newsletter — including a French phrase my maman used to love:

bien dans sa peau.

Who are you becoming more visible for?

The clients who need your expertise?

The opportunities you’re ready to step into?

Or perhaps partly for yourself?

Because the photograph you’re using belongs to an earlier version of your career, your business or your life.

Becoming more visible doesn’t mean becoming louder.

It may simply mean allowing the person you already are to be seen.

If you’re considering new Personal Branding photographs or Headshots, you can book a free discovery call through my website. It’s relaxed, friendly and completely no pressure.

Before I take a photograph, I notice.

When someone lights up talking about her work.

When her voice changes because we’ve reached the thing she really cares about.

Whether her energy is lively or quietly assured.

And the moment she stops thinking about being photographed.

Those things shape the photographs far more than a list of poses ever could.

What brings out the most natural version of you?

On Sunday it was the launch of Bramble & Fawn — Quiet Truths for Difficult Times. 🌿

And it was really special to be there.

I’ve watched Charlotte bring this idea to life with so much thought and care, and seeing the finished book out in the world was just lovely.

Bramble & Fawn is a little book of quiet truths for difficult times — written for people going through separation, change, loss or uncertainty. Something gentle and reassuring to reach for when life has taken an unexpected turn.

I’ve felt really privileged to be part of the Bramble & Fawn journey too.

It started with photographing Charlotte as she stepped into this new chapter as an author, and since then it’s been so lovely to see everything take shape and to be part of it along the way.

Charlotte gave me the most beautiful personal note, thanking me not only for the photographs but for all the support since and for sharing in her excitement.

That means such a lot.

Because for me, photography has never really been just about taking photographs. It’s about getting to know someone, understanding what they want to say and helping them feel confident putting themselves — and what they’ve created — out into the world.

And Charlotte has created something very special.

So much thought has gone into every little detail of Bramble & Fawn and Sunday felt like such a lovely celebration of all of it.

Charlotte, you should be so proud. I’m really glad to be part of the journey — and I can’t wait to see where Bramble & Fawn goes next. 🤍🌿

And if you know someone going through a difficult time or a big life change, this would be such a thoughtful little book to give them.

The best personal branding photographs don’t create confidence.

They reveal it.

They don’t turn you into a louder, glossier version of yourself.

They simply help you relax enough for more of the real you to show.

Because the photographs still need to feel like you when you walk into the room.

A big thank you to Angela for inviting me back to speak at Cotswold Networking in Cheltenham on Monday 14th September. I’m really looking forward to it.

I’ll be talking about something I’ve been thinking about a lot in my work:

What if the camera isn’t the problem after all?

Because what I’ve found again and again is that so many women who tell me they hate being photographed don’t actually have an issue with the camera itself.

It’s much more about the experience of being photographed.

I’ll be talking about confidence, vulnerability, connection — and why changing that experience can completely change how someone feels when they see themselves in a photograph.

And if you haven’t been to a Cotswold Networking event before, I highly recommend it. They’re friendly, relaxed and full of really lovely people — and I’d love to see you there!

The photograph you choose as your profile picture can say a lot about how you see yourself.

Sometimes a client chooses the warmest image.

Sometimes the strongest.

Sometimes the one with more confidence than she might previously have chosen.

And I love that.

Because sometimes choosing a new photograph is also saying:

This is how I’m ready to be seen now.

If your current profile photograph no longer feels like you, you can find out more about my Headshot sessions on my website.

Professional doesn’t have to mean impersonal.

You can look credible without looking corporate.

Authoritative without looking severe.

Approachable without playing down your expertise.

People aren’t only choosing your qualifications.

They’re choosing the person they believe they can trust.

What do you want people to feel when they see your photograph?

A lot of women have learned how to be excellent without drawing too much attention to themselves.

They work hard.

Know their subject.

Support everyone else.

Let the results speak for them.

So being more visible can feel uncomfortably close to showing off.

It isn’t.

You don’t need to become louder.

You may simply need to let more of the person you already are be seen.
