A young woman reached out, wanting to do something special for her neighbor. She asked, “Mandy, what are you doing next Thursday?” I checked my calendar and said I was free. She then inquired about my fee for a wedding, and when she explained that due to ill health and after waiting 34 years, Kath and Philip were finally ready to seal their love story, I told her I’d do it for free.
On the day, I hopped into my truck and, as with any wedding, gave it my all to make it truly special. Kath was nervous but overjoyed to marry her soulmate. The intimate ceremony took place in her backyard, surrounded by close family and friends. As Kath appeared, Philip was overcome with emotion; summoning all his strength, he held her hand, and together they vowed their forever love.
With tears in my eyes, I captured the moment as best I could. Philip then spoke and played a song he had written for Kath, filling the air with pure emotion. The registrar, I, and everyone there were moved to tears.
Being part of something so heartfelt and creating memories for Kath to treasure reminds me exactly why I love my job.
