Coffee ☕ OR tea 🍵?

For me, it's usually coffee. Decaf these days, but coffee nonetheless!

My workday almost always starts the same way: coffee in my travel cup ready for the school run. Then when I get back it's checking emails, looking at my to-do list, and working out which of the 57 things on it needs tackling first.

That first drink of the day feels a bit like a reset button (even if it is a fake hit!). A chance to gather my thoughts before diving into client shoots, editing, content creation, networking, or whatever else the day has in store.

That said, there are definitely days when only a good cup of tea will do. Usually when it's raining outside, I'm working from my office, and I need a little comfort while tackling a task I've been putting off!

It's funny how something so simple can become part of our daily routine.

So I'm curious...What's your go-to workday drink?

☕ Coffee = C
🍵 Tea = T

Or are you going to completely throw me off and say hot chocolate, energy drinks, or something else entirely?

I can’t switch off from noticing light.

A patch of sunshine on a brick wall. The shadow of leaves dancing across a pavement. A pop of colour in a shop window catching the afternoon sun. Wherever I go, my eye is always searching.

Confession time...I wasn't always aware of it.

Like most people, I used to look at a scene and simply see what was there. Now I find myself noticing *how* it's lit. Where the shadows fall. Whether the light feels soft and flattering or harsh and distracting. It's become second nature.

It is one of the biggest misconceptions about photography. People often think photographers have a special gift or that they naturally see things differently. The truth is, it's a skill. One that can be learnt, practised, and developed over time.

In fact, one of the biggest transformations I see in my Smartphone Photography for Business classes isn't people's technical ability. It's the way they start looking at the world.

Suddenly they're noticing window light in a café. Turning a coffee cup slightly to catch the light better. Moving themselves a few feet to avoid harsh shadows.

Nothing has changed except how they see, and once that happens, their photos will never look the same again.

You stop relying on luck and start creating images intentionally. Whether that's a selfie, a flat lay, a behind-the-scenes shot, or a photo for your next social media post.

Because great photos don't start with the camera, they start with your eyes.

“I’m just not very good at taking photos…” I hear this all the time.
But if you've never been taught the few simple principles that make everything easier, then how could you know what will a picture pop.

Things like:
Finding the best light.
Where to stand for that all important selfie.
Composition rules and how to break them.

In my Smartphone Photography Class, I’ll guide you through it all, step by step, in a way that feels simple and doable. You'll go away with a workbook full of information and actionable skills that you'll actually use.

Next group session is 23 June in Worcester. If you'd like more information, just let me know!

Do you have a wins folder?

If not, I'd highly recommend starting one.

Mine isn't particularly organised, but it's a collection of client messages, testimonials, kind comments, achievements, milestones, and moments that made me smile. The things that are easy to forget when you're having a brilliant week... but absolutely invaluable when you're having a tough one.

Let's be honest, business isn't always sunshine and success stories. This year has been one of the toughest my business has faced.

There are days when confidence wobbles. Days when enquiries don't come in. Days when imposter syndrome decides to make an appearance and convince you that everyone else has it figured out. (Is the universe telling me to quit? What's the point?! When's it going to turn around?)

Those are the days I revisit my wins folder, not because I want to dwell on the past, but because it reminds me of something important.

I've done hard things before.

I've built a business. I've helped clients. I've solved problems. I've navigated challenges. I've achieved things that once felt impossible.

The evidence is right there.

An example is this testimonial from Sue.

"You made something that, on the lead-up, was an absolute nightmare for me even consider doing into an enjoyable and fun day!
I am really pleased with the photographs that you have taken, and I really do think that you got the best out of me. I will feel confident using your pictures on my new website, and I am so grateful to you."

When I read messages like that, I'm reminded why I do what I do. It's not just about taking photos. It's about helping people feel confident, visible, and proud to show up in their business.

Sometimes we spend so much time focusing on the next goal that we forget to acknowledge how far we've already come. So if today feels hard, take a moment to look back at your wins.

Not to compare or to boast. Just to remind yourself that you've overcome challenges before, and you'll overcome this one too.

Today EBM Photography turns 12! 🎉

What started as a photography business has evolved into so much more. Over the years I've realised that while photos are important, what my clients often need is support, strategy, confidence, ideas, and someone in their corner.

So to celebrate 12 years in business, here are 12 ways I can help you:

1. Headshots
A great headshot is often the first impression someone gets of you. Whether it's LinkedIn, your website, a networking profile, or a speaker bio, I can help you create a professional, approachable image that reflects who you are and helps people connect with you.

2. Brand Photos
Brand photography goes far beyond a nice picture. Together we'll create images that support your marketing goals, tell your story, showcase your services, and help you attract the right clients. Strategic images work harder for your business.

3. Support with Confidence
Many people feel nervous in front of the camera, others feel uncomfortable showing up online. with my mBIT training, I can support you with both. My aim is to help you feel comfortable being visible, so you can share your expertise and promote your business with greater confidence.

4. Smartphone Photography Classes
You already have a powerful camera in your pocket. I'll teach you how to use it properly, covering lighting, composition, selfies, flat lays, and editing, so you can create better content for your business and capture personal memories too.

5. Goal Setting
It's difficult to know what content or photos you need if you don't know where you're heading. I help clients think about their ideal clients, goals, priorities, launches, and plans, so we can create images that support the destination, not just look nice.

6. Brainstorming Ideas
Sometimes all you need is someone to bounce ideas off. Whether it's content ideas, stories to tell, ways to explain your services, or new marketing approaches, I love helping people find fresh ways to communicate what they do.

7. Introductions to My Network
After 12 years in business, I've built up a fantastic network of business owners, suppliers, collaborators, and referral partners. If I know someone who could help you, I'm always happy to make an introduction.

8. Social Media Audits
Sometimes we're too close to our own business to see what others see. I can review your social media presence from an outside perspective and suggest simple improvements that help your profiles better reflect your expertise and attract the right audience.

9. Social Media Planning
One of the biggest barriers to visibility is inconsistency. Through my Beyond The Shot package, I help clients create simple, realistic content plans that make showing up regularly feel much more manageable.

10. Making the Most of Your Photos
One photo can become far more than one post. I'll show you how to use a single image in multiple ways, create different types of content from it, and get maximum value from your photography investment.

11. Accountability
We all know what we should be doing, but life and business often get in the way. Sometimes having someone check in, ask how things are going, and gently keep you on track can make all the difference.

12. Being Here for You
Business can be lonely sometimes. Whether you need advice, encouragement, a sounding board, or simply a coffee and a chat, I'm always happy to listen. Some of the best conversations happen away from the camera.

Thank you to everyone who has supported EBM Photography over the last 12 years. Whether you've booked a shoot, referred a friend, attended a class, liked a post, replied to an email, or simply cheered me on from the sidelines, I'm incredibly grateful.

Here's to the next chapter.

Imagine opening your camera roll and actually liking what you see. No blurry shots, dark, dull images, and no “I can’t post that…” Just clean, bright, confident photos ready to share.

That’s what the class on 23 June is about.

By the end of our session, you’ll know how to:

✔ use lighting to your advantage
✔ compose your photos with ease
✔ take better selfies (yes, really!)
✔ edit your images so they pop

And most importantly, feel confident using them.

(ps don't forget that I do 1-2-1 classes as well as have gift vouchers!).

Today was a shoot with a difference.

Did you know my Mum was an artist? She created over 200 pieces of artwork in the last 25 years. Beautiful pieces filled with colour, creativity, and so much of who she was.

Today, I started the emotional task of deciding which pieces I’d like to keep and which I’d like to find new homes for. As part of that process, I catalogued and photographed the first 50 artworks.

As I worked my way through them, I found myself remembering stories, moments, and conversations. Some paintings I hadn’t seen for years, others instantly transported me back to a particular time and place.

It reminded me that photographs and artwork aren’t just images. They’re memories. They’re legacy. They’re little pieces of a person’s story that live on long after they’ve been created.

Creating content doesn’t need to take hours.

When you know what you’re doing, you can capture multiple pieces of content in minutes.
- A quick flat lay.
- A couple of behind-the-scenes shots.
- A simple, natural selfie.

Done!

That’s what I’ll help you do in my Smartphone Photography for Business Class - make content creation feel quicker, easier, and far less stressful.
