QUESTION AND ANSWER TIME!!!!
🐝When should I book my newborn session?
Ideally, get in touch during mid pregnancy (approx 6 months) so I can reserve a space around your due date. Babies rarely arrive exactly when expected, so I keep the date flexible and arrange the exact session date once your little one arrives.
🐝When is the best time for a newborn session?
Newborn sessions are usually best during the first couple of weeks, when babies are naturally sleepier, flexible and more settled. That said, every baby is different, and beautiful photos can still be created beyond this window.
🐝What should I bring with me?
You don't need to bring lots! I provide the props, newborn outfits, wraps, blankets and accessories needed for the session. Bring plenty of nappies, your baby's usual milk, a dummy if they use one, and anything special you'd like included as well as plenty of snacks and drinks for you!
🐝Should I feed my baby before the session?
A nice full tummy can help encourage a sleepy, settled baby, so I usually recommend feeding shortly before we start. Don't worry if baby needs another feed (or 10!) during the session — we can stop whenever they need.
🐝What if my baby won't settle?
Don't panic! This is completely normal. ❤️ Babies aren't expected to sleep perfectly throughout their session. We allow plenty of time for feeding, cuddles, winding and settling. There is absolutely no rushing.
🐝What if my baby needs a nappy change?
That's completely fine! We expect lots of little breaks throughout the session. Nappy changes, feeds and cuddles are all part of the experience.
🐝What should my baby wear?
Something easy to remove is ideal, such as a simple sleepsuit or vest. Avoid anything that needs to be pulled over baby's head if possible and anything that leaves marks like socks. I'll take care of the outfits and wraps once we're ready to begin.
🐝Should I bring my own outfits or props?
You're very welcome to bring something meaningful if you'd like to include it, such as a special blanket, teddy or family heirloom. Otherwise, I have everything needed for the session.
🐝What should parents wear?
Simple, neutral colours tend to work beautifully and keep the focus on your family. Avoid bold patterns and large logos. Most importantly, choose something you're comfortable in — you don't need to dress up unless you want to!
🐝Can siblings be included?
Absolutely! ❤️ Sibling photographs are such a special part of a newborn session and I offer a packages called 'The Bee Hive' which includes everyone. We'll work around their mood and energy on the day and never force them to participate.
🐝Can we have family photographs too?
Of course. Your session is about celebrating your whole family, not just your new arrival, if you all want to get involved book a 'Bee Hive' session to allow enough time for everything to be captured. We'll capture a mixture of baby on their own, family photographs, parent photographs and sibling images where appropriate.
🐝What if I don't want to be in the photos?
No problem, not all of us like to be in front of the camera (I much prefer to be behind it!!!) I offer a baby only package called 'The Queen Bee' or a mini package 'The Honey Bee' which are perfect for baby only or just a couple of family or parent shots.
🐝What if my baby is awake?
That's absolutely okay! Awake photographs can be beautiful too. We'll follow baby's lead rather than trying to force them to sleep.
🐝What happens if my baby cries?
We stop and comfort them. Simple! Your baby's needs always come first. ❤️ There is no expectation for them to stay settled for the entire session.
🐝How long does a newborn session take?
Allow plenty of time. Newborn photography is baby-led, so depending of your session type it can take a few hours depending on feeding, settling and how baby is feeling on the day.
🐝Do I need to worry about posing my baby?
No. This is my job! I use safe, age-appropriate posing techniques and will never place your baby into a position that isn't safe or comfortable.
🐝What if I haven't had much sleep?
Welcome to newborn life! 😂 Please don't worry about arriving looking perfect. This isn't a photoshoot where you need to have everything together. Come as you are, bring your baby and let me take care of the rest.
🐝Is there anything I should do the night before?
Try not to put too much pressure on yourself. Get whatever rest you can, pack your bag and make sure you have plenty of milk, nappies and snacks. Most importantly, don't worry if the night doesn't go to plan — newborns definitely don't follow plans! 😂
🐝What is the most important thing to remember?
You don't need to have a 'perfect baby' or a perfect day for beautiful photographs. 🤍
Babies feed, cry, wriggle, wee, poo and need cuddles — that's newborn life! Your session is completely baby-led, and we'll take our time to capture those tiny details and beautiful memories without rushing.
