I had a very special day on Thursday, taking portraits of some incredibly beautiful souls at Orchid Care Home
I’m so excited to get to work on editing these photos and sharing them with the team at Orchid Care home as well as Their friends and families. I’m such a firm believer that people deserve to be seen for how special they are throughout their lives, and I think these photos will show that ❤️

Expecting a new baby into your family and watching the way that your bigger babies are excited for them too is all kinds of special. We did this at home maternity photoshoot in Swindon, at the end of the week, late afternoon, schools over, work is done… and we just had a really chilled out hour together where I captured this magic time in this beautiful family’s life.

I’m booking family and maternity sessions through to the end of the year, and availability in some months is very limited so you know the drill… book now to secure your spot!

Little Hands hold a huge emotional connection for me.

The moment when all three of my own children held onto my hand on purpose rather than the other way around made me catch my breath. My littlest uses her hands to connect and express emotions a lot, and she has always done this thing in times of quiet where she reaches out and strokes my face and it turns me into a puddle of love and emotion every time. She’ll do it even now she is 5 going on 25, if she sees me in pain, or tired, or just somehow knows that I might need it then she comes and sits with me and will reach out and stroke my cheek, or hold both cheeks in her hands and give me a bit smooch. I love it. It grounds me… it connects me… it’s truly special to me.

That’s why I love capturing little moments like this. Quiet, unobtrusive, enjoying a warm bottle of milk with your mama… and as if to ground themselves or just to reassure themselves that they are as connected as humanly possible to one of their favourite people in the world… down comes that hand on top of theirs! Either that or they are terrified you’re going to whip the milk bottle away(!)… I mean who knows, but it’s damn cute nonetheless!

Incase you missed my stories, flower field season is fast approaching and I’d love to get your thoughts on the dates that would best work for my minishoots this year. Due to other bookings and commitments I’ve only got one weekend that I’m looking at currently, and with enough interest I’m happy to do more than one day… but I need to know where the interest is!

ENGAGEMENT PHOTOSHOOTS

Here are my top four things to consider when thinking about whether or not to have a couple photoshoot to mark your engagement:

1) YOU DONT NEED TO HAVE IT RIGHT AS YOU GET ENGAGED - timing is key, but the thing to remember is do it when feels right for you- whether you’ve just got engaged or did it 10 years ago and now feels right to mark the occasion, there is no right answer!
2) CHOOSING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER- A couple photoshoot can help you decide upon your wedding photographer- if you’re not quite sure on signing on the dotted line with your potential wedding photographer, booking a couple photoshoot with them can give you an idea of what it’s like to work with them, what their approach is like, and what you might look like in the photos they take. Commuting to a couple photoshoot is a relatively lower budget option before committing to your wedding photographer
3) ANNIVERSARIES IN REVERSE - why not have your engagement photoshoot with one year to go to the big day? Or to mark another special date… it can keep that count down excitement alive! You could also mark your one year wedding anniversary with a couple photoshoot… just make up your own rules!
4) PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT- if you’re worried about having your photos taken on your wedding day, an engagement shoot can be a perfect opportunity to get your wiggles out, try out some stuff in a low stress environment, and get rid of that awkward feeling so that come your wedding day a lot of the nerves or worries you might have about standing in-front of a camera have dissipated
5) LOCATION - don’t get paralysed and incapacitated by the worry that you don’t know where to have your photoshoot… speak to your photographer (if they are like me, they will have lots of ideas and options) and ultimately don’t overthink it. Whether it’s a field where you love to walk, a little cafe in a quiet street, big city vibes, at home, yomping through a woodland… there are no right answers, And no ‘wrong’ locations if you choose somewhere that just makes you feel comfortable as a couple.

At home baby photoshoots don’t come with rules, not when you have your session with me.

When I had my three babies, I felt so much pressure to get them photographed at certain times. Like If I didnt have them photographed in the first 10 days they would self destruct, and that they had to be posed and perfect, and that siblings could be involved… sort of…but only with the cursory “lie them on the floor and then lie baby alongside them in their arms and then the siblings are ‘done’… Not to mention that to do all of this I also had to dig us all out of our new baby bubble, get dress, operate on someone else’s schedule, pack a bag the size of a spaceship to take changes of clothes and nappies (for both baby and me, especially if my milk went berserk and soaked through my top for the millionth time).

I was presented by too many rules that didn’t feel right for us as a family, and quite frankly made me feel like I was failing before I even began!

There is no shade here- there are plenty of photographers who provide this kind of newborn photography and an excellent service, take stunning pictures and are incredibly talented and skilled at what they do. I will never be the one to sit here and say what any fellow photographer offers and does is ‘wrong’, I’d just like people to know that there are options. New baby photoshoots with me are slow, in home (or can outdoors in the warmer months), they celebrate the every day of you as a family with this new beautiful human in your world, and they embrace the wildness and chaos of having a baby in the house whether that’s your first or fourth. I want to create and hold a space for you as a family that is zero pressure, safe, kind, honest, and is able to fill with the love that your little family produces.

My advice in life is always “you do you”, choose what fits for you in this time of life. I’d love to capture your family as it grows… so you know where I am when you’re ready to get something booked in.

POV: the locations your photographer suggests for your photoshoot might be random… but trust in the process!

I know the locations that are going to give you the look and feel that you are after, even if they are a dusty rapeseed field in Wiltshire, it’s part of my job to find these spots where we can create magic.

Regardless, LOVE will always shine through if we find space to create the moment.

Life is so fleeting, and I bet you I could find all the excuses in the world for you not to have a photoshoot with your most loved person or people in the world… but for all of the excuses I could find you a million more reasons to just do it nonetheless. Stop letting the excuses or worry or apprehension get in the way of celebrating you and your connection. This time won’t come again.

T-2 days until this beautiful pair get wed, andI can’t wait to recreate the magic!
