Our final competition of the season was held on Monday 20th April 2026 which was the “PDI Of The Year” Competition. Derek Danks was our judge for the evening, facing the formidable task of evaluating nearly 80 high-quality entries across the Intermediate and Advanced sections. Derek began with the Intermediate category, providing thoughtful critiques and holding back several standout pieces for final awards. He named Mick Perry with his Image “Red Brown Squirrel“ as Intermediate group “PDI of the Year
In the second half, Derek turned his attention to the advanced entries. After another round of insightful feedback and careful deliberation, he named David Bourne with his image "Jessica” as the “DPI Image of the Year”. Derek noted the difficulty of choosing winners from such a strong field and expressed how much he truly enjoyed viewing the images on display.

On Monday 23rd March we held a Open – People/ Portrait Competition (Print/PDI).
We were delighted to welcome Geoff Reader DPAGB BPE3* to judge our most recent competition. With a high volume of entries in both sections, Geoff faced the unenviable task of separating a very strong field. Our members thoroughly enjoyed his comprehensive appraisals and insightful critiques of every image.
It was fantastic to see some of our new members having successful images in this competition.
A special congratulations goes to William Brown, who won the prestigious “Portrait Image of the Year” with his striking shot, "Left of Centre." Well done, William!

Also, a huge thank you to our judge, Geoff Reader DPAGB BPE3*,

On Monday 23rd February we welcomed Clive Ward LRPS AFIAP, to judge our Open Print Competition. There was a good entry from both the Advanced and Intermediate groups with most genres being represented. Every image was carefully and thoughtfully judged with many hints and tips to improve the work. Our members were very complimentary and impressed with Clive’s critique. The standard of photography was very high, which made for a difficult task to separate the top images.

Open / Landscape Print & PDI competition 26th January 2026

Our judge for the night was Steve Clifford. Steve had a challenging night with almost 80 images in total and it was not an easy task for him with it being a good strong entry from both the Intermediate and Advanced sections. Steve started off commenting on the Intermediate & Advanced Prints first, holding back some images for the awards. He gave some very good critique on the night for the members to take on board, so I hope some of them go back and try what he said on the night.
Then in the second half Steve started to judge the Intermediate and Advanced PDI images and again gave some good critique. He again held some images back for the awards before awarding the Landscape image of the year to Paul Way with “Morning mist”

Continuing our third competition of the season “Open / Natural History Competition” (Print/PDI). After a short break, in the second half David started to judge the Intermediate and Advanced Print entries and again gave some good critique. The standard of photography was very high, which made for a difficult task to separate the top images in each group, he did say it was not an easy night for him and he did tell all the members he really enjoyed looking at all the images we entered on tonight’s competition. Open Print competition 22/10/2025
The judge for the night was Mr Tom Swallow, he had a very challenging night judging the Intermediate and the Advanced sections. There were a lot of strong images entered. As a result it made Tom’s night difficult to separate the top images from each section.
