GW Brand Photography

GW Brand Photography I am an experienced, professional brand photographer. I help business owners and entrepreneurs to el What's not to love?

Personal Branding is essentially the practice of people marketing themselves and their careers as 'brands'. It's really the ongoing process of establishing an image or impression in the minds of others about you, your business and your product or service. So we all know, consumers want to do business with people they know, like and trust. Having a personal brand with strong visuals that consistent

ly portray your personal brand is crucial to attracting your ideal client. They can't get to know like and trust you if they don't know who you are right? It's more important than ever to be present online, with inspiring, professional, story telling images that attract and encourage engagement from those potential clients. Personal brand photography is the art of using high quality images to tell the story of your personal brand. Strong visuals will market and advertise your personal brand, will let your ideal clients come to know, like, and trust you and position you as an expert in your field. Having a bank of strong, on brand images, that you can pull from for your social media posts, website and marketing requirements, will not only save you time and stress, but will also help you grow a successful business. Through effective brand photography, you will feel more confident, more professional, and you will have a stronger and more engaging online presence. In short - you will attract your ideal clients, and essentially make more money for your business.

Said with love. But...yep I’m saying it.

When speakers are on stage at an event...PUT THE PHONE DOWN (unless you're taking footage...that's allowed 🤣)

I’m currently editing yesterday’s event photos and the irony is not lost on me.

I’ve got loads of shots of the speakers on stage, taken from behind, looking out across the full full fullest audience.

Great composition.
Great moment.
Room looks brilliant.

And then...

Three people on the front row.

All. Looking. At. Their. Phones.

😭😂

And instantly, the photograph tells a completely different story.

Instead of:

“Look at this room full of people engaged, listening and learning.”

It LOOKS like they're elsewhere.

Which couldn't be further from what was actually happening. People were just multi tasking as always. And I get it – I take notes on my phone at networking meetings, events…urgent things come up…so I promise I really do get it! But when you’re on the front row…it just makes for a bit of image ruination!

I’m watching the room as much as I’m watching the stage.

I’m looking for connection. Energy. Reactions. Those little moments that show what it FELT like to be there.

And your phone can completely change the story an image tells.

So here's my loving advice from your friendly event photographer:

If someone is on stage speaking and there’s a photographer wandering around behind them...

For the love of all the beautiful event photographs I could be creating...

PLEASE. PUT. THE. PHONE. DOWN. 😂📱

I promise, your WhatsApp messages will still be there when they’ve finished speaking.

Love yooooou ❤️

Prepare to win by skill, but be ready to win by will.

That line hits differently for me this week.

I’ve been an event photographer long enough to know my craft.

I know where I need to be before the moment happens.
I know what I’m looking for.
I know how to work a room.
I know how to capture the moments my clients didn’t even realise were happening.

That’s skill.

But sometimes, skill isn’t the bit that gets you through the day.

I recently had minor surgery on my arm. Then the wound became infected last weekend.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday were spent feeling pretty bloody rough on antibiotics. I’m still taking them now, although thankfully everything is healing nicely.

And I’d also been told not to carry anything remotely heavy for a few weeks.

Do you KNOW how heavy a professional camera with a 70-200mm lens is? 😂

So when the alarm went off and I was leaving the house at 6:45am for an all-day event, I knew this one was going to require something else.

Will.

Because once I’m there, my standard doesn’t change.

I don’t stop looking for the moments.

I don’t think, “That’ll do.”

I’m watching. Moving. Anticipating. Capturing it all.

Then when the event finishes, there’s still downloading, backing up and editing the sneak peeks.

Was I running at 100% physically? Absolutely not.

Did I still expect 100% commitment from myself? Yes.

Because this is my business.

It’s my reputation.

It’s my livelihood.

And the people who book me are trusting me to capture moments they cannot recreate tomorrow because I happened to be having a rough week.

There are days in business when your skill carries you.

And there are days when you have to decide what your standard is when things aren’t easy.

This week, skill got the photographs (and all the other work I’ve delivered).

Will got me through.

Prepare to win by skill, but be ready to win by will.

It feels a bit patronising to say I feel proud of Alice. But I do.

What she pulled off today, was really quite something.

I don't run my own events, but I do event manage them for others. And today I was shooting Alice's Social Media School event, while another corporate event I have event managed at London Excel was taking place too. Feedback on that one was that it was 'seamless'.

So I know first hand the work that goes into creating and delivering a well executed event. The details, the keeping everything running on time, the stress, the endless to-do list...the sheer amount of time it all takes. And Alice pulled it off. And then some.

So yeah, patronising or not, I'm dead proud of her, and absolutely delighted for her.

Bravo Alice and team 💕

Just a smidge of sneaks here before I fall into a well earned happy little coma...na-night

Question...When did you last update your brand photos?

Are you still rotating the same three images you’ve been using for the last two years?

Your business has moved on. Your offers have changed, you’re showing up differently - but the photos representing you haven’t caught up.
You don’t necessarily need a huge brand shoot to fix that.

On Thursday 17th September, I’m running my Content Builder Mini Brand Sessions at Park House in Wilmslow.

One quick shoot.
Five fresh, professional images you’ll actually use.
Just £125.

Perfect for your website, LinkedIn, socials, emails, speaker profiles - all those places where you keep thinking, “God, I need a new photo.”

If updating your photos has been sitting on your to-do list for months, this is your sign to actually get it done. I have limited sessions available.

Click below to book yours, other dates available too. (Or link in insta bio / DM me and I'll send you the details)

It's Fri-yay!

Are we heading into the weekend with exactly the same energy as these two gorgeous little cookies.

Yes, they’ve only been back at school for two days… but somehow the first week back is both magical and absolutely brutal in equal measure, isn’t it?

The return of routine.
The return of packed lunches.
The return of "where's my unifooooorm?"
The frantic search for a water bottle at 8.17am.
And approximately seven gazillion less “MUUUUUUMS” in the day.

Everyone’s exhausted. Nobody knows what day it is. But WE MADE IT. 😂

And on a vaguely business-related note… I shoot lots of nursery brand photography. I smile all the way through the edit. So if your nursery needs storytelling images full of life, personality and proper little moments like these - you know where I am. 📸

Now… swing yourselves into the weekend.

Up to anything nice? Cold flannels and gin? Just me?

Honestly, this stuff turns into genuine business.

So thank you to everyone who has ever mentioned me, referred me, tagged me, linked me, bragged about me "have you SEEN how amazing her shoot with blah was?!" (I'm manifesting that one 🤣), or just simply recommended someone check out my work... you never know where it might lead.

So thank you, and keep up the good work.

And those of you who don't give me a second thought? Do better 🤣❤️

“Right, a few things you should know before you meet Gill".

"She is warm, funny, ridiculously easy to talk to and has an almost supernatural ability to make people feel comfortable very quickly. This means there is a strong possibility that within 20 minutes you’ll have told her considerably more about yourself than you intended to.

She talks. A lot. She asks questions. A lot. She is genuinely interested in people and absolutely LOVES a proper conversation. Small talk will probably last about four minutes before you’re discussing your childhood, your business, your marriage and something that happened to you in 2007.

She is very funny, frequently inappropriate and swears enthusiastically. If you are easily offended, prepare accordingly.

She has an extremely low tolerance for bu****it, pretentiousness, corporate waffle, people making simple things unnecessarily complicated and anything described as ‘elevated’ when it plainly isn’t.

If you ask her opinion, understand that you are going to get her opinion. Not the polite version she thinks you want. The actual one.

She notices EVERYTHING. The weird thing in the corner of the room. The slightly off wording. The reason something doesn’t quite work. The fact you’ve moved something three inches. The tiny mark on someone’s arm. Once she has noticed something, she is physically incapable of leaving it alone until she understands it.

She is creative but also deeply practical, which means she can go from ‘I’ve had an idea…’ to a full strategy, cost breakdown, snack quantities, supplier options and three alternative taglines before you’ve finished your coffee.

She doesn’t really do half-arsed. A small idea can become A THING surprisingly quickly.

She will spend three hours obsessing over one sentence because it is ‘nearly right but still a bit s**t.’

She hates cheesy motivational bo****ks, weak marketing copy, generic branding, the word ‘journey’ being used unnecessarily and anything remotely airy-fairy. If your brand says empowering women to step into their authentic selves, approach with extreme caution.

She is fiercely loyal and cares enormously about her people. If she loves you, she is properly in your corner. She will champion you, help you, photograph you, sort something out for you, make you laugh when everything’s gone tits-up and probably worry about you more than you worry about yourself.

Her family is everything. She is simultaneously running a business, creating things, organising things, photographing things, driving children somewhere, thinking about the next thing and wondering why her laptop has run out of storage again.

She can be gloriously chaotic while somehow also being the person who gets s**t done.

She has approximately 47 tabs open in her brain at any given moment.

She will ask a question, immediately think of another question, interrupt her own question with a third question and eventually circle back to the first one.

Usually.

She has strong opinions, a big heart, a very quick brain and absolutely no poker face.

If she thinks something is brilliant, you’ll know.

If she thinks something is bo****ks…

you will also know.

Basically: expect warmth, laughter, swearing, ideas, questions, honesty, mild chaos and a conversation that goes wildly off piste.

You’ll probably leave with three new ideas, an accidental therapy session and Gill saying,

‘WAIT. One more thing…’

There is never just one more thing.” 😂

Less “LOOK AT ME!”

More “This is why me.”

Because being visible is grand, yes.

But being visible while people scroll straight past you? Less useful.

Brand authority is about making your expertise, experience and value obvious - so you’re not just another face in the feed.

You’re the one they remember.

And, more importantly, the one they choose.
