🚨 THREE PEOPLE RESCUED AFTER BOAT SINKS OFF TYNEMOUTH 🚨

Tynemouth RNLI was called out this afternoon after a 14ft vessel began sinking off the South Pier.

The lifeboat was requested to launch at 2:59pm on Saturday, with three people on board the stricken vessel.

Fortunately, the pilot boat Hadrian was already in the area and was able to rescue all three people from the water.

Tynemouth RNLI then met the pilot boat as it returned through the piers, transferring a paramedic crew member onboard to assess those involved.

The casualties were taken to the South Shields ferry landing, where they were met by Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team and South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade.

Once everyone was in the care of an ambulance crew, the lifeboat returned to sea to check for any debris or pollution before heading back to station.

The RNLI said the three people were “very lucky”, but praised them for doing the right things in an emergency - they were wearing lifejackets, had a VHF radio and called for help on Channel 16.
