Flying fish. An early start and this time lucky. Dolphin off Roker pier this morning photo taken at 07:07:07 according to my camera, shame it was the 5th June rather than the 7th July, I do like a sequence.

Little beech. In my last post I mentioned two outing while minding the grandchildren in Chapel, my first was to Bolehill quarry parking at Padley gorge and walking up through the woods. It was a bright morning a marked contrasted to the rain of late but I was hoping for a deeper frost, near satisfied. Anyway the photograph wasn’t epic so I continued my walk to Millstone edge and did a round of the cliffs. This image is from the start of the morning in Padley. OM1ii 12-100mm .uk

Blue route. Before sunrise, before it melts. After 3 trips to this location in recent years I thought I wouldn’t be back so soon but the prospect of a little snow after so much rain I figured it would be worth a visit. It’s an easy location to get to, especially early from Chapel my location for 5 days on grandchildren duties. As usual I parked at Earl Sterndale and made my way over very wet and muddy terrain to the top of Chrome Hill. I’m sure there is a more convenient place to park up known by seasoned locals but Earl Sterndale is easy and I’m not afraid of a longer hike for my photography. I’m ashamed to say that this being my fourth visit I still haven’t climbed Parkhouse Hill as I’m always in a hurry to get back to Carla and the children, unfortunately that haste resulted in a nasty slip on the decent of Chrome hill on my last visit, badly twisting my ankle. This image is one of my first of the morning and was planned many moons ago if I even I had chance of capturing it in snow. OM1mkii OM12-100mm .cameras

PONY AT DAWN. The start to what turned out to be a very good sunrise this morning. Luckily rather than an aimless walk I headed for Cleadon hills to visit those lovely Exmoor ponies.

All gone. The snow from yesterday is now all gone and it may take a few years to rot but the hawthorn beyond the stile is now no more. It was still standing last time I photographed it back in October 2018 from the other side of the stile as the foreground element of a sunset image. I don’t which storm claimed this tree but it was in a very exposed spot and it was looking haggard back then so I’m not surprised.

Then there was four. As I was staying 5 miles away I thought I’d give this Kelly Hall tarn a look see. Frequented by many a photographer the problems with the place is that there is so many fantastic images already taken, from every angle. I had hoped to catch the nearly full moon setting but it was very cloudy, I did manage to get one, not great… I may show it one day! Then another photographer turned up so I no longer had the place to myself. A friendly chap called Alex with two lovely dogs, a collie and chihuahua JR cross which I took a shine too for obvious reasons and it was keen to sit in front of me while I took my photos, I could have easily have adopted it. Here is one of my favourite of the morning, nothing special but it’s mine. om1ii om 8-25mm f4

Missing moments. Although no solid plans are in place in the not to distant future we’ll have to move. The decision was made years ago as soon as our 4 children were all settled many miles from the place we call home, the north east of England. Time dictates it will happen sooner than later. My daughter was born in Bristol, because of work, and we had spent a very happy 3 years there, but for family reasons we moved back home soon after she was born 38 years ago. When we leave one of my biggest regrets will be leaving this coast, it’s Beauty and it’s drama, but one thing I’ll not regret is that I didn’t miss capturing moments like these.

Made it. Three times a charm. Our journey today was to Buttermere, 3 nights at the . A very wet day, stopped off at Keswick first for a bite to eat, then started off for honister pass but Borrowdale was hellish. The lake had flooded and each pool on the road was a case of get we get through, we made passed Grange but no further, cars had already broke down and were stuck. So we turned round, plan 2 was to go over Newlands, that’s if we got out of Borrowdale which was touch and go. Newlands was another no go, just before Stair a van had broke down in pool which was an extension of the stream, turn round . On the way out just before the Swinside stop to talk to a recovery van driver on his way to bail out the van and asked him if Winlatter pass was ok, so that was plan 3. We made. Today’s photo is the usually little stream opposite the Bridge.
