🐦 Everyone loves a Robin… but how about this little character?

A Great Crested Grebe chick, complete with those fantastic black-and-white stripes.

There's something slightly prehistoric-looking about young Grebes — particularly when they stretch that long neck out!

I spotted this youngster out on the water and couldn't resist getting a few shots. Definitely not quite as colourful as yesterday's Robin, but every bit as photogenic.

One of the things I love about wildlife photography is that you never really know what you're going to come across next.

❤️ Always love a Robin photo…

I don't think I'll ever get tired of photographing these little characters.

This one stopped just long enough for a portrait yesterday at Ferry Meadows, Nene Valley Park, Peterborough.

I particularly liked the light coming through the leaves on this one — lots going on around him, but that unmistakable orange breast still jumps straight out of the frame.

Sometimes you don't need anything rare or exotic. Just a Robin in some lovely light.

🔥 THREE SHOTS. TWO AFTERBURNERS. ONE QUESTION…

Which is your favourite — 1, 2 or 3?

The Dassault Rafale putting on a spectacular display at RAF Cosford Air Show 2026.

There are few things quite as impressive as seeing a fast jet light the burners, and from a photography point of view, I love how different these three moments are.

🔥 1 — banking hard, both afterburners glowing
🔥 2 — powering away with that fantastic heat haze and colour
🔥 3 — almost straight down the exhausts, with those two rings of fire dominating the shot

I keep changing my mind between 1 and 3...

So, over to you.

🏰 I’m really excited to finally be able to offer this one for sale.

You might recognise this photograph of Corfe Castle from a post I shared recently. It was taken from around two miles away, and I loved the way the distance showed not just the castle itself, but how completely it dominates the surrounding Purbeck landscape.

It’s one of those photographs that I knew I wanted to do something more with, so I’m delighted to say it is now available through the Silent Shutter Photography website as a signed and numbered Limited Edition fine art print.

Each print is produced on beautiful Hahnemühle German Etching Giclée paper, individually signed and numbered, and comes with its own Certificate of Authenticity.

There are four sizes available, with increasingly limited editions — right up to the largest 100 × 70cm, of which only 10 will ever be produced.

Framed and unframed options are available.

I’m genuinely rather proud to have this one in the collection. 😊

’I've been thinking about what inspires me to teach…🤔💜
Whilst on holiday, I visited St Edward's Church in Stow-on-the-Wold, which is said to have inspired Tolkien when he was creating the Doors of Durin in Middle Earth.
It got me thinking about inspiration in general.
For me, teaching has never just been about getting children through an exam or improving a grade. It’s about sparking their curiosity, helping them make connections and seeing that moment when something suddenly clicks.
Sometimes the smallest thing can capture a child’s imagination and open up a whole new world of learning.
That’s the bit of teaching I love – and it’s exactly what I want Conexus Tuition to be about.

🏰 Can you name this castle?

I'll give you a clue... this photograph was taken from around 2 miles away (as the crow flies)!

The answer is.........

Standing high above the village for almost 1,000 years, it's one of those places that seems to command the landscape from every direction. From this viewpoint, you really get a sense of its incredible scale and just how strategically it was positioned.

I love photographing famous landmarks differently. Rather than standing within the ruins, this perspective shows Corfe Castle exactly as travellers would have seen it for centuries – rising above the hills and surrounding countryside.

It's a reminder that sometimes stepping back tells a bigger story.

🐦 Nature's Lunch is Served...

Hidden amongst the branches at Dale D**e Reservoir, this Song Thrush paused for just a moment with a snail firmly held in its beak.

Song Thrushes are one of our most fascinating garden and woodland birds. Unlike many other species, they have a clever way of tackling snails. They'll carry them to a favourite stone or hard surface, often called an "anvil", where they repeatedly crack the shell before enjoying the meal inside.

It's a behaviour that's been passed down through generations and a wonderful reminder of just how resourceful wildlife can be.

This wasn't the easiest photograph to capture, with the bird weaving through the branches, but moments like this are what make wildlife photography so rewarding.

Some photographs just belong in black & white.

Tewkesbury Abbey has stood for almost 900 years, weathering countless storms and witnessing centuries of history. Standing beneath its towering walls, it was impossible not to look up and admire the dramatic sky gathering overhead.

While the original image was captured in colour, I kept coming back to it and felt that monochrome was the better choice. Stripping away the colour allows the architecture, texture and atmosphere to take centre stage, giving the image a timeless quality that feels perfectly suited to such an incredible building.

Sometimes black & white isn't about removing colour... it's about revealing character.

One of the things I love most about the summer holidays is spending quality time with family. It's a chance to slow down, recharge and make memories together.

We've been enjoying a lovely week in Dorset, making the most of the sunshine, and have managed to combine two of my favourite holiday pastimes—steam trains and castles! 🚂🏰

This beautiful view of Corfe Castle, taken from the end of the station platform, was captured by my talented partner, Richard. I think it perfectly sums up the charm of this special place.
