A little splash of colour among the reeds 🌾🐦

Meet the Reed Bunting — a small farmland and wetland bird with a big personality. Males are easy to spot in breeding season thanks to their striking black head and white collar, while females have a more subtle streaky brown appearance.

✨ Quick Reed Bunting facts:
• They thrive in reedbeds, marshes, and wetlands.
• Their diet changes with the seasons — seeds in winter, insects in spring and summer.
• Males sing from prominent perches to defend their territory.
• Once common across the UK, they are now a species of conservation concern due to habitat loss.

Tiny legs, big journey. 🐦✨

Meet the Little Ringed Plover — one of nature’s smallest shorebirds. Did you know:
• Their bright yellow eye-ring helps make them easy to identify 👀
• They nest directly on open gravel and sandy ground 🪺
• Chicks can walk and feed themselves just hours after hatching 🐣
• Despite their size, many migrate hundreds or even thousands of miles each year 🌍

Caught this stunning Barnacle Goose gliding across the water. Their striking black-and-white plumage makes them one of the most elegant geese you’ll spot in the wild. Nature never fails to impress. ✨🌊

Did you know? 👀
🦢 Barnacle Geese breed in the Arctic regions of Greenland, Svalbard, and northern Russia.
🌍 They migrate thousands of miles each year to spend winter in the UK and northern Europe.
🎨 Their distinctive black neck and white face make them easy to identify.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Barnacle Geese often mate for life and travel in family groups.
💨 They can fly in large V-formations to conserve energy during migration.

Silent. Stunning. Built for the night. 🦉✨

A few of my favourite shots of this beautiful barn owl captured at the Owl & Raptor Photography Workshop. Watching these incredible birds up close and photographing every detail—from those dark eyes to the heart-shaped face—was an unforgettable experience.

Wild Barn Owl Facts:
🦉 Barn owls can hunt in complete darkness using their exceptional hearing.
🦉 Their heart-shaped facial disc helps funnel sound directly to their ears.
🦉 They fly almost silently thanks to specially adapted feathers.

Silent wings. Golden eyes. Pure woodland magic 🦉✨

Captured these beautiful Tawny Owls during the Owl & Raptor Photography Workshop — and honestly, they’ve completely stolen my heart. Tawny Owls are my absolute favourite out of the entire owl family. There’s just something about their sleepy expressions, fluffy feathers, and calm personalities that makes them so adorable and incredible to work with 📸🍃

Watching them up close and photographing every tiny feather detail was such an amazing experience. They’re beautiful, mysterious, and somehow both majestic and cute at the same time ✨

A few wild Tawny Owl facts 👀
• Tawny Owls are nocturnal hunters with incredibly silent flight
• Their famous “twit-twoo” call actually comes from two owls calling to each other
• They can rotate their heads up to 270°
• Their feathers camouflage perfectly against woodland trees
• Tawny Owls often stay in the same woodland territory for life

Spent the day photographing these beautiful Little Owls at the Owl & Raptor Photography Workshop, and I’m still obsessed with those huge eyes and curious expressions 😍📸

🦉 Little Owls are active during the day and at dusk
🦉 They often nest in tree hollows, old walls, and barns
🦉 Despite their tiny size, they’re fierce little hunters
🦉 Their head bobbing helps them judge distance before catching prey
