HOW TO GET BUSY DANCE FLOOR PHOTOS

I capture up to 45 minutes of dance floor photos after the first dance - stick by these guidelines, and you'll get some crazy good photos!

- As the couple, you gotta stay on the dance floor for at least 4 or 5 songs! The party goes where you go!

- Hook your dress train up BEFORE the first dance so your bridesmaids aren't struggling for 10 mins to find a tiny hook in the dark.

- Get every single guest stood round the dance floor before the first dance, NO BUMS ALLOWED ON SEATS FOR THE FIRST DANCE (other than Nana Peggy with the hip replacement.)

- Pre-warn your wedding party/close family to join you on the dance floor when you motion for them, and tell them to pull up other people on their way - they are the catalyst that will start the fire.

- DANCE TOGETHER! Us Brits have a weird "walk backwards as you dance" culture, meaning we end up dancing about 10 feet apart. GET CLOSER!

- Make the room DARK! If you're getting married in Autumn/Winter/Spring, it will be nighttime by 8pm, but venues need to find a way to darken their Summer dance floors! The only lights should be DISCO LIGHTS.

- Sort out a banging playlist with your DJ/band to play straight after the first dance - include songs from your hen/stag dos, anything that reminds you of your 20s/uni days, etc.

- IRISH EXIT! If every goodbye takes 5 minutes, that means you could lose HOURS of the party you paid for! Have a rule that if you're dancing when they're leaving, they leave you to your dancing.

- Don't be afraid to play up for the camera and DON'T HIDE! My camera doesn't bite, and it will take less than 5 seconds for me to get the shot. Be silly and have fun with me!

- Any outfit changes must take place half an hour before the first dance or half an hour after the first dance - don't disappear straight away!

- Make any father/daughter or mother/son dances the song just before the first dance OR half an hour after the first dance.

- Schedule a decent break between the end of dinner and the start of dancing - no one wants to boogie on a full stomach.

Patience is a virtue. And I've discovered that it's a virtue you really need when shooting 35mm film.

Organising these shots got me thinking about how long it's been since I first picked up a film camera. I was 16. That's ALMOST 30 years ago.

Back in 1998 I was a bit of a beatnik; short hair, black clothes, film camera permanently attached to my hand, photographing 60s bands in the Cavern. That really was my introduction to photography. Then, when digital photography exploded in the early 2000s, I never thought I'd use film professionally again, so my film cameras were always kept "just for fun".

Now 35mm is something people are turning to for a sense of nostalgia and realness, which makes me so happy. Im even happier to now offer film for any 2026 couple who would like to add a roll to their package, and from 2027, it will be available on every booking form.

Picking the right photographer for your wedding isn't just about who lives in the same area as you or has shot at your venue 100 times, it isn't about who can offer the most for the least, and it DEFINTELY isn't about who has the most awards.

It's about finding someone whose work you can see hanging on your wall, it's who makes you say "omg I'm like that/do that too", it's who you can picture having a laugh with your mates - it's someone who just feels right!

When the absolute legends Shannon and Andrew enquired with me, the words they used were "Bright light ones give us the ick! Your style is absolutely stunning!" With my style being on the darker side, I already knew they'd found the right photographer for them.

And when they said they loved the idea of some cheeky/sexy shots, it 100% confirmed it. I knewww I could achieve exactly what they wanted. And on top of that, I'd have FUN doing it because Shannon & Andrew trusted me, which meant I would never have to second-guess my approach.

At the end of the day, if the couple is happy and I'm happy, job's a good'un! There's no point if one of us is gonna be unhappy!

P.S. to any couples out there, if your Pinterest board doesn't contain any images from the photographer you're enquiring with, or their style looks completely different to what you've pinned - KEEP LOOKING. You haven't found The One yet.

Let's hear it for all the wonderful wedding parties out there!

And an ever bigger shout out to all the wedding party peeps who take their roles seriously and actually lend a hand, not just one the day but during the entire planning process.

The ones who know what time the ceremony/speeches/dancing starts without having to ask the couple for the 5th time.

The ones who have watched the bow tie youtube tutorial video ahead of the day.

The ones who grab the phone to speak to the florist when they call for directions on the morning.

The ones who escape with the couple for a quick sneaky ciggie when the parents arent looking.

The ones who run back to the venue for the missing bouquet.

The ones who are dressed early to be available for whatever the couple needs.

The ones who didnt leave it until the day to try on their suit for the first time.

The ones who hype up the guests for the couples big entrance.

The ones who keep the dancefloor going no matter what.

The ones who are always there on the other end of the phone when the going gets tough.

The ones who bring shots to the dancefloor after the first dance... but also knew that that 3rd vodka at 3pm from a random guest may not be the best idea.

You are the real ones. We salute you.

For the love of beautiful bouquets (and their erstwhile shoe companions).

I love a good colour palette and there's no better way to set the theme of your wedding by the colours you choose for your florals. Whether it be colourful, muted or dark, whether you go for one colour or every colour, whether you have a single flower or hundreds, your bouquet isn't just a thing for you to carry around - flowers can actually say a lot about your style and personality.

There are some insanely talented florists out there, and I've had the pleasure of working with lots of them; so if you need a recommendation for your area, let me know!

Can't wait to see the colour combinations 2026 brings!

I've always been drawn to the old cameras, in flea markets, charity shops, car boot sales, usually picking up something that looks decrepit but still working. From fancy Canon AE-1's all the way down to an old Boots 110 cameras that many 80s babies will remember (long and thin, with film cartridges that look like a bone!) Over the last 20 years I have collected a huge box of developed photos; nights out, holidays, random country walks, etc. But over the last 4 years, I also started bringing a 35mm camera to weddings, snapping a couple of images here and there - just for fun.

But this year I thought it would be amazing to try and shoot more film at weddings, and see where my collection of oddball cameras can take me. I'm setting myself a mission to shoot 1 roll of film at each wedding in 2026. I may achieve 36 perfect shots, or only 1! I know that as a perfectionist, the learning process will be stressful, but it will also be lots of fun. Any usable shots will be included in my 2026 galleries.

These images were captured in 2022 at Jessica & Rachel's beautiful OH ME OH MY wedding in Liverpool, on a £15 plastic camera from Amazon. Can you believe it!?

Love this trend. Although I'm a bit late, I couldn't pass up the chance of showing off how much I loved the camera when I was little. And now I'm playing around with shooting 35mm film at my 2026 weddings, it's interesting to see how different each old photo looks depending on the camera and film combination used.

I've also just realised how much a fringe has featured in my life. ALL HAIL THE FRINGE!

(And if anyone wants to know more about the broken knee story - which is completely true, btw - comment below and I'll fill you in.)

Don't get me wrong, I loooove colour, but there's just something about black and white images that give me life. Almost like poetry. They present a true balance of light and shade, with the uncanny ability to bring even more meaning to what was a fleeting moment.

Within every gallery, I usually provide around 20% of images in black and white. I use my artistic judgement, as the documenter of your day, to decide which images to convert into bnw... and I don't always provide the equivalent in colour. Why? Because I believe some moments deserve to be seen differently, and providing duplicates can sometimes dilute the impact of a stunning image.

And, let's be honest - sometimes lighting can be SO s**t that converting to black and white is the only way to save an image here and there 😂 soz for exposing photography secrets 😂💀
