Ever wondered how to make your golden hour wedding portraits more golden?

It can be helped in camera by increasing the Kelvin number to higher than the common
5500. However, unless you would like to put a powerful strobe off-camera with an orange gel, you’ll have to look at your post production editing.

You could do the following:
✨ double the number on the temperature gauge of your white balance & tint
✨reduce your contrast and exposure
✨ desaturate the blues and turquoises and
slightly saturate the orange & yellow
✨ adjust the hue on your greens to yellow

Make sure you’re actually shooting during golden hour by checking your phone’s sunset time and getting out there an hour before sunset - best results happen closer to sunset!

However your plans will be scuppered if pesky clouds gather on the horizon, unless you’ve got off camera flash skills and a decent prime or long zoom lens, but that takes away from the idea of authentically exploring a space during sunset I guess!

Engaged on the beach during sunset in Kent 🤍

My word, I love documenting these moments - this was last seek with K + D who I’m hiding their faces while they tell their closest friends and family.

A little shout out to the random Dad who walked around with me while I was following the couple, and the big group of teenagers who welcomed me to pretend to be “one of them” while we walked in the other direction 😂 By the time they got engaged half the beach were watching haha! Gorgeous.

Wedding at The House in Ramsgate in Kent on Analogue Film 📸

Even short weddings are deciding on booking a bit of 35mm film, for a couple of reasons - the nostalgia, it’s back in fashion and the colours and textures are a little different to the average digital photograph.

I try to keep my colours true to the colour I see with my own eyes, and I have always loved grain in my digital photographs, but the authenticity of analogue is something I’ve fallen in love with.

Don’t get me wrong as a film wedding photographer it’s a bit scary when you can’t review the photograph on the back of the camera, but the anticipation when waiting for the scans from the lab feels like Christmas.

Goodness me, I can’t believe that in a matter of weeks I’ll have a 1 year old and a 5 year old.

This adulting stuff is getting real 😂 it’s also reminded me to book in our family shoot which I can’t wait for! I’m photographing some family shoots myself the end of the summer and I think it’s so worth investing in if you’re a nostalgic sentimental weirdo like me.

I thank God for His goodness this last year. I found Toby’s first year of life pretty hard in places and was anxious it might feel the same. I got a bit of counselling to gear me up for round two with Nina, and this year’s actually been wonderful. Sleep hasn’t been nearly as hard, Toby’s been super helpful, and Nina’s a delight. Beth’s been able to sleep more too, is a bit worried going back to work full time but we’ll support her 🙏

Here’s to another year parenting with the love of my life, just a few more weddings left this year, a bunch of proposals, couple of brands and families, thank you Jesus.
