360 technology brings something completely different to aerial filming. Rather than being restricted to where the camera is pointing during the flight, the entire scene is captured around the drone. During editing, we can then choose the viewing angle, reframe shots and create camera movements that would be extremely difficult, or in some cases impossible, to achieve with a conventional drone.
There’s still plenty for me to learn with 360 editing, but you have to start somewhere. For me, investing in new equipment is only worthwhile if you also invest the time in learning how to get the best from it.
We’re now looking at offering 360 drone filming as an add-on to our existing aerial and ground videography services.
For weddings, venues, events and commercial properties, it gives clients another creative option. A single flight can provide multiple perspectives, sweeping reveals, fly-through style sequences and more immersive footage, helping showcase a location in a way that traditional aerial footage can't always achieve.
It won't replace conventional drone or ground filming, but used alongside them it gives us another tool to create something a little different for our clients.
A lot more experimenting and learning to come, but it's a great start.
