Some "GROUP" photos I've taken recently.

I really don't like using fear to sell wedding photography.

So this isn't me telling you that you need to spend XYZ on a photographer or your day will be ruined. Because it absolutely won't.

But I hear this over and over and I want to share why.

"I wish we'd spent more on a photographer"
Or
"I wish we'd had our photographer with us for longer"

Usually because your photographs end up being one of the few things you have that allow you to revisit the best day of your life.

So please don't book your photographer based on 12 Instagram posts.
Read their reviews. Look at their work 'Not just the highlight photos'. Make sure you love their editing style. And MOST importantly, make sure you actually get on with them.

And what does 'winning' even mean.

A long time ago it was creating a business that gave me the freedom to travel. To spend time with my family. And whilst it's easy to keep moving to the next milestone. I think I've been 'winning' all along.

The photos you have saved on Pinterest aren't the result of a photographer shouting 'EVERYONE LOOK NATURAL'

They are the result of people having time.

To hug
To chat
To grab a drink
To walk around the venue

My job is then to notice those moments.

But you need to allow for them to happen.

If we are jumping from the ceremony, to confetti, to groups, to dinner set up, to couple portraits. There is no time for me to do the job I'm best at.

So if relaxed, natural photos are important to you. Start with looking at your timeline, not your Pinterest board.

If I was getting married in 2027, I think I'd plan a slightly different wedding to the one I was planning five years ago.

Although, if I'm honest, we were pretty good at ignoring a lot of the wedding 'rules' back then. We kept the things that felt like us, and prioritised what we liked.

But 5 years later. With 5 extra years of photographing weddings, it's made me even more certain about what I'd choose now.

I would definitely go smaller.

You hear people say it all the time, but there were A LOT of people at our wedding who I could count on one hand the number of times I have seen them since.

So I'd be much less worried about upsetting someone, and I'd cut that guest list right down.

Because after watching hundreds of people get married, you start noticing what actually makes a wedding memorable.

And it's not the chair covers.
