The more I photograph, the more I realise that great images often come down to anticipation.
It’s about reading movement, understanding light, noticing the small details, and being ready before a moment fully unfolds.
These images were captured at very different events and places for different reasons, however the approach remains the same.

Most people see the obvious moment.

What fascinates me is what happens just before it and the moments afterwards—the fleeting expression, the shift in light, the split second that tells a deeper story.

Photography has taught me that the most powerful moments are rarely the loudest. They’re often the ones that almost go unnoticed. It’s not just the click of a button or an expensive camera it’s all about the photographer

One of the biggest misconceptions about photography is that every great photo needs eye contact with the camera.

In reality, some of the most emotive images happen when you’re not looking at the lens at all.
When your attention is focused on a loved one, your work, a thought, a laugh, or a quiet moment, the image becomes less about posing and more about feeling. It creates space for genuine connection, natural expressions, and the little in-between moments that tell the real story.

That’s often where the magic lives.....not in looking at the camera, but in forgetting it’s there.

The most powerful photographs don’t just show what you looked like; they remind you how it felt.

Here’s a throwback to 2 images that I captured at the 80th D-Day memorial service that was conducted by the Rev’d Canon Bob White in Portsmouth, both men in deep contemplation surrounded by others in conversation.

Street photography definitely opened up my confidence in defining my style and finding the hidden beauty in the everyday moments
