🚨𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫: A planned multi-agency emergency training exercise will take place at the Tamar Bridge this evening from 7:30pm.

✅ The bridge will remain open throughout.
✅ The pedestrian and cycle paths will remain open.
✅ Delays may occur but are expected to be minimal.

If you see emergency service vehicles on or around the bridge, please do not be alarmed. This is a planned and controlled training exercise involving partner agencies.

FOUND: Two adventurous travellers!

Bluey & Stitch were discovered on the Tamar Bridge today after apparently making a daring escape from a pram.

They're now safe and sound in our control room, taking in the views while we try to find their owner.

If you recognise these little adventurers, please contact us so we can help reunite them with their owner and get them safely home. 💙

The bridge will remain open throughout the exercise, although some delays and temporary traffic management measures may be in place.

🛳 Torpoint Ferry Service Update

Over the next few weeks, we'll be carrying out a number of essential upgrades, maintenance projects and infrastructure improvements across the ferry service.

We know regular customers are already affected by the current two-ferry service and will want to understand what happens next. This update explains what work is taking place, how it will affect ferry services and what customers can expect over the coming weeks.

This includes work to both Tamar II and Plym II vessels, alongside improvements to the gantry and slipway during September and October. The work has been planned in stages and scheduled around specialist contractor availability and the needs of the vessels to allow a two-ferry service to continue while the works are carried out.

As we move through the remainder of the year, Tamar Crossings will be undertaking a coordinated programme of essential upgrades, maintenance and infrastructure works across the ferry service throughout September and October.

🚲 Can we reunite this bike with its owner?

A Specialized Rockhopper bike has been left behind at Torpoint Ferry, safely locked to one of our railings for the past few days - but unfortunately we’re not able to let it stay there forever!

Just a little reminder that locking bikes (or leaving vehicles) anywhere on our site isn’t permitted. There are dedicated bike lockers near the ferry lanes in Devonport, which you’re very welcome to use when catching the ferry.

If this is your bike, please get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can get it back to you.
If it remains unclaimed in the next 48 hours, we’ll unfortunately need to arrange for it to be removed from site. Rather than letting it go to waste, we’ll make sure it’s donated to charity.

So, if you recognise this trusty two-wheeler or know who it belongs to, please help us spread the word and get it home!

🛳 Torpoint Ferry Service Update

Our two-ferry service will continue next week - with a ferry leaving each side of the river approximately every 15 minutes.

We know a reduced service can be frustrating, particularly for those who rely on the ferry every day and may also be impacted by other road works and diversions in the area. We want to be as clear as we can about why we are unable to return to three ferries at this time.

The safe operation of each ferry requires a specific number of crew members in specifically trained safety critical roles. These roles cannot simply be covered by any member of staff. When a member of staff in one of these specialist roles is unexpectedly unavailable, we may no longer have the required crew to operate that ferry safely.

We are using additional hours from other suitably trained members of the team wherever possible. However, there are legal limits on the number of hours each person can work. This means we have to carefully balance the additional cover available to us across the week and prioritise it where it will have the greatest benefit.

This is not a decision we take lightly, nor is it simply a matter of putting another member of staff to work on a ferry at short notice. We will continue to review our staffing position and service levels and will return to a three-ferry service as soon as we have the safety critical crew available to operate it.

Our crews are working hard to provide the safest and best service possible within the circumstances, and we ask that customers please treat them with patience and respect.

🔥 Wildfire near the Tamar Bridge – please take extra care

We are aware of a significant wildfire in the vicinity of the Tamar Bridge and are continually monitoring the visibility levels caused by the resulting smoke.

Our teams are assessing conditions to ensure it remains safe for vehicles to continue crossing. If visibility levels change, we will provide further updates.
In the meantime, please:

🚗 Do not be distracted by the fire – keep your attention on the road and do not attempt to take photographs or videos while driving.

⚠️ Take extra care when approaching the toll plaza. Our staff are walking around the area as we monitor the situation, so please slow down and follow any instructions from our team.

💨 If you encounter smoke, reduce your speed and increase your following distance. Keep windows closed if smoke is affecting the road. Be prepared for reduced visibility and avoid sudden manoeuvres.

🚨 Please follow the instructions of emergency services and do not stop on the bridge or approach the area to watch the fire.

*UPDATE Bridge has now reopened*

⚠️ Tamar Bridge and Saltash Tunnel currently closed

Due to a Police led incident the Bridge and tunnel are currently closed in both directions - please find an alternative route.

Out of consideration for those involved we politely ask that no speculative comments are made on the cause of the incident.

🌉 Tamar Bridge remains open during A38 closure
*Updated 16:31 - the planned road closures are no longer taking place on 20th and 21st August and so no traffic will be diverted*

We’re aware that some drivers are seeing signs about the A38 closure and are concerned that they can’t access the Tamar Bridge. Please be reassured that the Tamar Bridge remains open in both directions throughout these works!

National Highways are carrying out overnight work on the A38 westbound, resulting in closures between St Budeaux and the Tamar Bridge during these dates and times:
📅 18–21 August
⏰ 8.00pm–6.00am

A diversion is in place via Pemros Road, which will allow traffic to continue accessing the Tamar Bridge. Please allow some extra time for your journey and follow the signed diversion route.
