BTS (behind the scenes) time!!! Every single session starts with intention and inspiration. After reading your questionnaire and any notes I’ve made about our upcoming session, I find a space that speaks to me - today it was this ray of sunshine on the stairs - and sit. I wait while my brain settles. I want to see you and your special day in my mind. What is unique to this celebration, this gathering, this family or personal moment? Is there anything I want to highlight? What will I be looking for during our hour or day together? Then I start to make my list. For Emily (whose session I’m writing about in the first photo), this started with the keywords “calm” and “intention.” I then just kept writing. For whatever reason, “through the windows” kept cropping up. When I was done, I had a clear picture of creation in my head.

The rest of my prep is ritual and superstition!

Ritual: I make sure I have some empty SD cards (not exactly easy, as I always double record just in case!), and three fully charged batteries. I look at the location several times, often visiting it in the weeks prior.

Superstition: I grab my chocolate and bevvie of choice and head out! Do I have skill or is it just that I drink Diet Coke at key moments in my life? Who knows. But I don’t want to find out.

The setting and lighting were an absolute dream. Loved working with E and her sweet family on this beautiful day.

When Wil reached out about his upcoming engagement I was like - I have been waiting for this moment my whole life - and went into full secret agent mode. We chatted beforehand and agreed on where to meet. In casual bird-and-flower-watcher mode, I trailed them up the path (lack of crowds made this an extra impressive feat, if I do say so myself). What a stunning location to have chosen, and a huge congrats on Steph saying "yes!"
