I said yes to this wedding from a car park in Sri Lanka.

I was on my own honeymoon at the time. My wife was off having a massage, and there I was, pacing the tarmac with my phone held up to the sky, doing everything I could to stop the signal dropping while Sarah-Jane, Connor and I sorted out the details.

Congratulations Sarah-Jane and Connor. I love who you are as people, and I love the little family you've built. Thank you for trusting me with your day, even when I was a slightly frantic voice on a patchy line halfway across the world.

140 people in the room and it still felt like a secret between two families.

Monique and Taylor didn't just get married. They wove two worlds together. Latin American warmth and British steadiness, meeting somewhere in a church in Teesside, surrounded by every single person who shaped them.

They told me before the day that faith and family were everything, and you could feel it in every room. The way people held each other during the ceremony. The way parents watched on in tears. The faces of people who'd flown from California and beyond to witness these two tie the knot. The moments that didn't need a word.

After the church we drove 20-something minutes to Roseberry Topping, wedding dress and all, because some backdrops are just worth it. We stood on the edge of the North York Moors in golden light and made something I'm very quietly proud of.

First time working with and . I genuinely hope it's not the last!

There's something about meeting a couple for the very first time and watching them slowly forget the camera is even there.

Kayleigh and Dan arrived at Bamburgh a little unsure - by the end, they were dancing on the sand with their dogs tearing around them, laughing so hard it was almost hard to keep up. That's the moment. Every single time.

Bamburgh does something to people. Maybe it's the scale of it - the castle sitting up there like it's been watching couples fall in love for a thousand years. Maybe it was me, asking them muck about like two kids in love, on the beach. Maybe it's the cold air and the wide sky and the feeling that you can just... breathe. Either way, I couldn't have asked for a better first session with these two.

Kayleigh and Dan, I cannot wait for your wedding day at As You Like It, get ready!

You know those weddings where every single detail tells you something true about the people getting married? Vikki and Jon's was one of those.

Ride ticket menu cards. Table centrepieces built around 3D printed Disney landmarks. A Darth Vader helmet sitting proudly amongst the florals. Burgundy Converse on the groom. Mickey Mouse wafers in the ice creams. A Disney character cake topper. Every detail placed with total intention, total love, and absolutely zero compromise on who they are.

I always say the best weddings are the ones where you'd recognise the couple's personality before you even saw their faces. This was that wedding.
And then there was Chester.

He couldn't be at the celebrations. But he was very much part of the day - remembered, included, loved. They made sure of that. He even got his own cake.

That one detail told me everything I needed to know about Vikki and Jon.

Congratulations to two of the most thoroughly themselves people I've had the privilege of photographing. What an absolutely brilliant day.

Hackness Grange was showing off a bit for this one, and fair enough.

James and Ellora picked an absolute beauty of a venue for an absolute beauty of a day.

The house. The bridge. The lake. The grounds. The light. It all just worked.

Elegant, warm, full of character, and cinematic in all the right ways.

Couple portraits are never just about the photos.

They are a pause. A little pocket of calm in the middle of a wedding day that can move very, very fast.

A chance to step away from the noise, the timelines, the people calling your name, and just be together for a minute. To breathe. To laugh. To look at each other and realise, oh yeah, we actually did it.

That is what this felt like with Sophie and Ivan at As You Like It.

Not stiff. Not overworked. Just a short wander, a quiet drink, a bit of space, and photos that feel like them in the middle of it all.

That is always what I want portrait time to be.
A reset and a bit of peace amongst the madness.

Beth and Rob at Carwinley Barn, and honestly, what a day.

Beautiful venue. Huge amount of love, and a dry beer tap by 6pm - the signs of a great Scottish wedding! The sort of wedding where you could feel the support around the couple from every direction.

Their story has had its surprises, both good and bad, but what they have built together feels steady in the best way. Full of love, full of care, and strong enough to spill out into everyone around them.

That's what stayed with me. It's not just how lovely it looked. How warm (and mad) it all felt.

Also, the dance floor turned up properly, which always helps.

Engagement shoots are not just about getting used to the camera.

They are about getting used to me and me getting to know you.

Your pace, energy, in-jokes and story. The way you naturally fall into each other.

That is what makes the wedding day easier.
It's not forced practice.
It's about building real connections.

Sarah and Connor at Marsden Beach gave me exactly that. Space to learn them, test ideas, have a laugh, and make photos that already feel like theirs.

By the time the wedding comes around, we are not starting from scratch.
And that changes everything.
