Why book an event photographer just for hour? What could they possible capture in that time? Actually, a lot! If you, like the gorgeous Sarah at CORNWALL SHOP SMALL, hold regular events, this can be one way of making sure you have a variety of up to date images to use. We do this a lot, and each time she tells me what she’s missing or needs - shots of new vendors or products, seasonally themed shots, details or the bigger picture. This weekend, I only had an hour to spare right at the start of the Truro market, but we used the slightly quieter time to capture portraits of new traders, close ups of new products and there was space and time to wait for that perfect ‘busy’ shot of the bustling market. What a festival! had the weather, the music, the people and everyone seemed to have the best time! I was working this one behind the scenes, which was awesome, but I did miss getting amongst it all and capturing that amazing atmosphere. However, I did get the camera out on Saturday night and caught the hilarious and wonderful Drag Race, Spark! lighting up the night, and made it into the woods for a fab DJ set with the . This is my favourite person I met this weekend. He didn’t tell me his name, mainly because he was too busy telling me about all his rings and charity shop bargains. Like the Rubik’s Cube he’s holding which was what caught my eye as I passed him. He allowed me to take his photo and then we chatted about his flat and his view and living in Newquay. I helped him carry his shopping home and he chatted the whole way. It’s these kind of interactions that make me grab my camera as I’m walking out the door - not for a job, but just for me. Just in case there’s a legend like this gent waiting to have his photo taken. What do we think his name is? 💖✨

Fancy spending a couple of hours exploring and taking photographs?

I’m really looking forward to running this relaxed photography workshop as part of .arts.festival with on Saturday 20th June.

The workshop is open to absolutely anyone with a smartphone or camera, from complete beginners to experienced photographers.

We’ll start with a short chat about perspective, composition and how photography can change the way we see a place, before heading out to explore Nansledan together with our cameras.

There’s no pressure and no expectation to know what you’re doing. The idea is simply to slow down, look a little closer and enjoy photographing the area in your own way.

There’ll also be optional help with manual camera settings for anyone who wants it.

Afterwards we’ll come back together to share a few favourite images from the afternoon.

Take me back. This was the setting for the most beautiful retreat run by at Rosemerryn. The garden, the woodland and the paths were brimming with life and colour and new growth. So what did I do when I wasn’t photographing the amazing space or the yoga? I went out into the woods to take more photos 💖✨
