The government have opened consultations today on changes that would allow humanist celebrants to conduct legally recognised weddings in England & Wales, meaning that couples will have the freedom to choose exactly where they want to marry.
Imagine getting married at home in your own garden, on the beach, or in the forest - how exciting! 🏖️ 🌳 ⛰️
At the moment, it’s the venue that’s licensed, not the person marrying you - meaning many couples have to choose between the location they love and a ceremony that’s legally recognised.
Currently, couples who choose a humanist celebrant still have to complete the legal part of their marriage separately at a registry office on a different date.
The consultation is open until 24th September 2026 and open to comment from couples, wedding professionals and celebrants - make sure you have your say 🙌
Where would you choose if you could get married ANYWHERE?!
