When I first began Olive & Wilde, I knew I wanted to document stories that felt deeply personal and intimate. For me, it’s always been about the people - who they are, what matters to them, and how their story quietly weaves its way into every image.
Garden weddings embody everything I love about what I do. They are by default deeply personal. At home, or maybe a family property, these stories are layered with meaning before I even pick up a camera.
Garden weddings have a way of stripping things back. People aren’t arriving into an unfamiliar space where they feel like guests at an event; it feels more like a gathering. Because of that, they relax more, interactions become more natural, and the performative side of a wedding starts to fall away.
If you’re drawn to photography that prioritises observation over direction, it’s in these kinds of settings that everything tends to fall into place.
