My cosmic girl. My brightest star. My never-stopping comet. 🌙💫☄️

You turned three yesterday, and I still can’t quite believe it - all 9 pounds of you, speeding your way into the world (just four hours before scheduled cs) like you had somewhere important to be and absolutely no time to waste. That was our first clue.

You have been living your life fully, loudly and proudly ever since, always knowing better, always entirely on your own terms.

And I promise you, my wild girlie - I will try my best to never let anyone or anything change you. Even if it costs me going completely grey.

Your laughter is the best sound I have ever heard, and so contagious I dare anyone to resist it. Those cheeky, wonder-filled eyes that say how can I make this my way?! every single time - I would keep them exactly as they are forever if I could.

You make our whole life more vibrant and more loving just by being in it. We all adore you, completely and without condition.

Five years ago I landed in Manchester with a toddler on my hip, no friends, no map, and a whole lot of hope.

I’d lived in St Petersburg, Birmingham, Miami, Chicago, New York - city after city, chapter after chapter (call me a vagabond).

Manchester is officially the longest!! I’ve called any place home since leaving my hometown at 16.

Covid hit just as I was trying to find my village - so I built one instead. Frame by frame, family by family, through a lens and a little photo studio that saved me more than I can say.

To every mum (and dad) who opened their arms to this immigrant-mama trying to find her feet - you changed my life. Full stop.

Immigrants don’t just make the world more interesting. We make it warmer. And I’ve been so lucky to be welcomed by the most open-hearted people I’ve ever known.

Five years in Manchester. Four years of the studio. A business, a community, a life I’m genuinely proud of.
The best chapters? Still to come. 🤎

I have a confession: I have almost no professional photos with my firstborn after he was born.

I was too tired and traumatised by the birth. I felt too “messy.” I thought I’d wait until I felt more like “me” again.

So when Melissa called me on the morning of her shoot, overwhelmed and ready to cancel, I didn’t see a client - I saw myself.

I know the “lack of sleep” brain. I know the feeling of not recognizing yourself in the mirror. I’ve been there twice, and I almost missed out on my own memories because of it.

I told her what I wish someone had told me:

The exhaustion you feel right now is part of the story, and it’s a beautiful one.

You will never regret having these, but you might regret a missed moment.

I’ve got you, Mama. You just need to show up. 🤍
