A little personal update ❤️

I wanted to give everyone a little heads-up that I’ll be having a planned medical procedure this month, which means I may need a little time to rest and recover.

November is always such a busy and special month for my studio, and I’m doing everything I can to keep all of your sessions running as planned.

I’ve already rearranged a few appointments immediately after my procedure, and I’m hoping to be back to normal as soon as I’m able. However, I may need a little flexibility with some sessions while I recover.

If I do need to rearrange your booking, I’ll always contact you personally and give you as much notice as possible.

Thank you so much for your patience, kindness and understanding. Being self-employed means I don’t always have the luxury of taking time out, but I’m reminding myself that looking after my health has to come first sometimes too.

I’m so grateful for every one of you who supports my little business. ❤️

🎃☕️ THE LITTLE COFFEE CLUB — HALLOWEEN RECAP! 👻🧡

Well… October was a little bit spooktacular! 🎃

Our Halloween Little Coffee Club went so well that we ended up running TWO dates, welcoming a total of 10 gorgeous little pumpkins into the studio! 🧡👶🏼

From cosy coffees, lovely chats and new connections between mums, to the cutest little babies in their Halloween costumes… it was everything I hoped The Little Coffee Club would be and more! 🥰

We had our pumpkin set-ups ready for some extra-special little portraits, and I’ve loved capturing these precious moments and seeing all the behind-the-scenes snippets of our mornings together. Just look at these little faces! 🎃📸

But The Little Coffee Club is about so much more than the photos. It’s about creating a little village for parents — somewhere you can get out of the house, have a cuppa, chat to people who get it, make new friends and know you’re welcome exactly as you are. No pressure, no judgement… just a little coffee, connection and community. ☕️🤍

Seeing this little idea come to life and watching mums connect while their babies cuddle, feed, snooze and do their own little thing makes me SO happy. Thank you to every lovely mum who came along and helped make our Halloween sessions so special! 🧡

🌿 STUDIO SPACE TO RENT — MALDON 🌿

I have a beautiful, fully equipped studio in Maldon that currently sits empty for a few days each week, so rather than letting such a lovely space go unused, I’ve decided to open it up for studio hire.

Although I’m a newborn and family photographer, the space is much more versatile than that and would be perfect for a whole range of small businesses, classes, workshops and creative sessions.

Is this what we really need to do to protect our work?

I’ve been seeing more and more posts about people using AI to remove watermarks from school and nursery photographs, and I feel like I need to say something.

Because this isn’t a new issue for me. I’ve had it happen, and I’ve genuinely lost sales because someone has said, “I just screenshotted that one off your Facebook.”

I think people sometimes forget there is a person behind that photograph.

A photographer who has invested thousands in equipment, insurance, software, travel and all the costs of running a small business. Someone who can spend hours photographing children, then even more hours editing and preparing galleries.

For many school and nursery photographers, their income comes from parents choosing to buy the photographs.

So when someone screenshots a preview or uses AI to remove the watermark, it isn’t just “getting one little photo.”

It is taking someone’s work without paying for it.

I completely understand that £20 or £30 can feel expensive. Families are under pressure, and nobody should feel they have to buy a photograph they don’t want or can’t afford.

But there’s a difference between “I can’t afford this” and “I’ll just take it anyway.”

If you don’t want to buy it, that’s absolutely fine. Please just leave it where it is.

Removing a watermark doesn’t remove the copyright, and using AI doesn’t make it any less somebody else’s work.

I’m not anti-AI. I think it can be an incredible and useful technology when used responsibly. But being able to do something doesn’t automatically make it right.

And when we’re talking about photographs of children, there’s another serious consideration.

Please think carefully before uploading your child’s photograph to an AI platform simply to remove a watermark. You’re giving that image to another online service, and you may not have the same control over it afterwards.

UK organisations including the National Crime Agency and Internet Watch Foundation have warned about innocent photographs of children being manipulated by AI into sexualised and abusive images.

I’m not saying this will happen to every image. I’m saying the risk exists.

Is removing a watermark really worth taking that risk with your child’s photograph?

And then there’s the bigger picture.

One person taking one photograph might not seem like a big deal. But when enough people do it, those lost sales add up.

Eventually photographers have to ask whether school photography is financially sustainable.

And then the question won’t be “Why does a school photograph cost £25?”

It might be:

“Why don’t photographers come to our school anymore?”

Because photographers need to earn a living too.

I love what I do. But loving your job doesn’t mean you don’t need to be paid for it.

So if you don’t want a photograph, don’t buy it. If you can’t afford one, that’s okay.

But please don’t screenshot it.
Please don’t remove the watermark.
And please don’t use AI to take something that hasn’t been purchased.

Because behind every watermark is a real person.

There isn’t an AI button that pays the photographer. 🤍📸
