☀️ Solar eclipse ready! 🌒📸
Are you planning to watch the solar eclipse on Wednesday evening?
I’m getting my kit ready — solar glasses ✔️, camera ✔️, and hopefully a solar filter arriving on Tuesday… because photographing the Sun without one is generally considered a fairly bad idea. 😂
For anyone who hasn’t heard about it, on Wednesday 12 August the Moon will pass in front of the Sun, giving us a deep partial solar eclipse here in Essex.
📍 Essex timings:
🌘 Eclipse begins — 6:16pm
🌑 Maximum — 7:12pm, with around 92% of the Sun covered
☀️ Eclipse ends — 8:05pm
The really interesting bit for photographers is that the Sun will be getting fairly low in the western sky, so I’m already thinking about possible foregrounds and landscapes to put underneath it. 🌅📷
And yes, I’ll be hoping for that elusive combination of a clear sky, interesting light and a camera that decides to cooperate. 😆
Important bit: please don’t look directly at the Sun, even during the eclipse. Proper ISO-certified eclipse glasses are needed for viewing, and cameras need a dedicated solar filter too. Regular sunglasses definitely don’t count!
Anyone else planning to have a go at photographing it? What are you hoping to capture?
