A classic Great Western Railway scene. 🚂📸

4930 Hagley Hall arrives at Highley during a visit to the Severn Valley Railway last summer, exchanging the single-line token before continuing its journey.

Moments like this are easy to overlook, but they remain an important part of railway history and add so much character to heritage railway operations.

Sometimes it’s not just about the locomotive — it’s about capturing the railway in action. 👀🔥

Looking ahead to next weekend… 🚂📸

A look back at 60163 Tornado and Flying Scotsman together at the Great Central Railway during a Fox & Edwards Events events weekend earlier this summer.

With Tornado operating for one final weekend in Ruddington, I’m looking forward to seeing this incredible locomotive in action once again. 👀🔥

Who else is planning a visit?

Second time lucky with 60532 Blue Peter at Crewe. 🚂📸

The original plan for a station shot didn’t quite work out on my first attempt, so a return visit last week was required.

This time, Blue Peter was being brought back into Crewe at the end of a private charter rather than departing, but it still provided the station scene I’d been hoping to capture all along. 👀🔥

Sometimes railway photography is all about adapting to what the railway throws at you.

The run of steam locomotives continues… 🚂💨

GWR Castle Class No. 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe passing Willington this morning whilst working Vintage Trains Ltd Cathedrals Express from Birmingham New Street to Newcastle.

Another fantastic locomotive, another early start, and another trip trackside that was well worth making. 👀🔥

LNER A4 No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley on the move this morning. 🚂💨

Always a privilege to see one of Britain’s most iconic steam locomotives out on the main line, especially on a light engine movement where it’s all about the locomotive itself.

A fantastic way to start the day. 👀🔥

LNER Pacific No. 60532 Blue Peter passing Helsby on a private charter from Langwathby to Crewe. 🚂💨

After last week’s plans were foiled by the locomotive being on the rear of the train, it was great to finally photograph Blue Peter the way I’d originally intended.

A welcome sight on the main line and well worth another trip out trackside. 👀🔥

SR Battle of Britain Class No. 34067 Tangmere storming through Astley on the & Coast to Coast Express from Liverpool to Scarborough. 🚂💨

A locomotive I haven’t seen for a while, and one that certainly didn’t disappoint. The sound, the speed, and the sight of Tangmere back on the main line made the early start more than worthwhile. 👀🔥

Well… this morning didn’t quite go to plan. 😂

The plan was to photograph 60532 Blue Peter departing Crewe with the station backdrop.

Instead, the train arrived diesel-hauled, with Blue Peter tucked away on the rear for the run to Chester.

Not the shot I set out for, but sometimes railway photography is all about adapting to what you’re given — and getting up close to this magnificent locomotive certainly wasn’t a bad consolation prize. 🚂💨

A few more from a fantastic day with Fox & Edwards Events and 60103 Flying Scotsman on the Great Central Railway (Nottingham). 🚂💨

From dramatic departures and lineside runpasts to some unexpected bonus moments, it was difficult to narrow the day down to just one photo.

Here are a few more favourites from a memorable day at Ruddington. 👀📸

Thanks to Events for putting on a great event and for their support of my photography. 🚂

LNER A3 No. 60103 Flying Scotsman charges beneath the bridge at Ruddington on the Great Central Railway (Nottingham), running for events. 🚂💨

A view that really shows off the size of the train and the spectacle that follows behind it. One of railway preservation’s true icons, and always a privilege to see it in action. 👀🔥
