Let's talk EDITORIAL SHOTS... πΈ
Okay, I'll be honest with you β these are a bit marmite π¬.
Some casting directors and agents love them. Others? Not so much. They'll tell you to stick to clean, classic headshots and leave the editorial stuff for your fashion career.
But here's my take β and why I always include one or two in a session...
- They show a different dimension of you - a clean headshot tells a casting director what you look like. An editorial shot tells them something about who you are. That's a different kind of power
- They stand out in a portfolio - when a casting director has scrolled through forty plain backdrop headshots, something with a bit of mood, texture and intention stops them. Even if they'd never cast from it directly
- They're creatively liberating - as a photographer, these are the shots I look forward to most. When a client relaxes into a more creative look, something genuine comes through, a freedom that you just can't manufacture in a headshot
Now - will they replace your classic headshots? Absolutely not. Your core portfolio still needs those clean, versatile shots that agents can pitch you with confidently.
But one or two editorial looks tucked into a session? For me, that's where the magic often happens.
Marmite or not β I'm here for it. Are you? π
