What's your favourite station on the London Underground tube map?

Meet Abraham, a filmmaker, video editor and graphic designer and  Highbury & Islington is his favourite station.

The station opened on 26 September 1850, originally under the name Highbury, Highbury & Islington has developed into one of London's important transport hubs. Located in Zone 2, the station provides connections across the capital through the Victoria line, Mildmay line, Windrush line and Great Northern services.

Abraham explains that one of the main reasons he loves the station is its excellent connectivity. With routes stretching across North, South, East and West London, it connects passengers to destinations such as Richmond, Clapham Junction and Stratford. He also shares his appreciation for the Victoria line, particularly its clever design, which allows convenient cross-platform interchanges between services.

Beyond the trains and platforms, Abraham has a real passion for transport maps and their ability to help people understand a city. He explains how London Underground maps are more than geographical representations; they are carefully designed diagrams that simplify complex transport networks while balancing accuracy, creativity

A glimpse of the future on the Piccadilly line!

The new trains look like something straight out of Tron, and I absolutely love their futuristic design. TfL were testing them over the weekend, giving me the perfect opportunity to spot a few in the wild and capture some shots.

There’s something special about the view from the end of the platform at Harlesden Station. It’s an ideal spot to capture trains arriving and departing from the station.

I thought I'd reshare this photo taken at Denmark Hill London Overground Station.

Many people have said that the blurred commuter in this photo looks like a ghost or even the Grim Reaper.

Ghost Train

They say Kennington Station is Haunted. So my Halloween pic is this spooky photo taken at Kennington tube station. On this platform trains have a long straight approach followed by a curve. This means that you can see arriving trains deep in the tunnel whilst standing well behind the yellow line.

Take me to Greenwich

A fun Halloween themed photo featuring the iconic Green Witch, Elphaba Thropp, from Wicked, on a poster at Bank Underground station in London. It took a few attempts to get the timing right but was very pleased with the results

AUG / EARL'S COURT

One of my favourite things to do at Earl’s Court is walk along the upper level and look down at the trains. I was hoping to capture the unlikely alignment of three/ four trains, but instead found something I loved in the quiet balance of two trains and a lone figure just off-centre.

What's your favorite station on the London Underground tube map?

Meet Paul, a Lambeth tour guide who runs the page South London Stuff. Paul's favourite Tube station is Stockwell.

The station opened on 4th November 1890, Stockwell station is served by the Northern and Victoria lines. Paul explains that the name comes from “stock”, meaning tree trunk, and “well”, referring to the natural springs once found in the area. Having grown up nearby, he loves Stockwell for its history and its place in the heart of London.

Paul recalls a funny childhood memory of pressing the big red emergency stop button on the escalators when he was about eight. His mum was not impressed, and his usual after school Twix was taken away!

One of his favourite features is the entrance to the deep-level shelter, built during the Second World War to accommodate 8,000 people a night. Today, it features a striking mural celebrating Stockwell’s history and famous residents, including Vincent van Gogh, Roger Moore and Violette Szabo, a secret agent who helped the French Resistance. The mural also commemorates the Windrush generation, whose early migrants sometimes stayed in the shelters before finding accommodation.

Paul introduces the Bronze Woman statue, installed in 2008 and inspired by a poem by Cecile Nobrega. It honours the strength, sacrifice and achievements of Caribbean women in Britain.

Inside the station, he highlights the distinctive swan tile motifs designed by Abram Games, a nod to the Swan pub opposite.

Finally, Paul reflects on the tragic death of Jean Charles de Menezes, who was shot at Stockwell station on 22 July 2005 after being mistaken for one of the attempted Tube bombers. A permanent memorial by local artist Mary Edwards commemorates this tragic event.
