Most Spotlight problems aren't talent problems.

They're clarity problems.

The easier you are to understand, the easier you are to cast.

Save this for your next Spotlight update - and send it to an actor whose profile could do with a spring clean. πŸ˜‰

For years, people have assumed I was "just" talking about headshots in my sessions.

The reality is I've been quietly studying casting, positioning and decision-making for most of my adult life.

Film, the industry and the processes around it β€” including casting β€” have always fascinated me.

Acting. Corporate strategy. Photography.

Different worlds. Same question:
How do people make decisions?

Advisory grew out of ten years of helping actors bridge the gap between where they are now and where they want to be.

I will always share information here and I can't help discussing these things during my headshot sessions.
But for those who wanted this as a standalone service, thank you for asking. 🫠

A P Wilding Advisory is now live. Prices from Β£295.

🎬 ACTORS β€” IT’S ALL ABOUT CASTING RANGE.

If you don’t show them, how will they know?

Every headshot, every clip, every self-tape should give casting directors a clear picture of what you can play.

They can’t imagine it if they can’t see it.

Show them. Make their day. πŸ˜‰

Most actors focus entirely on getting a casting director to click their profile.

That's important.

But it's only the first step.

Once someone clicks, your headshots are no longer being viewed individually. They're being viewed as a collection.

If the images are repetitive, confusing or all communicate the same casting type, it's much harder for a casting director to understand where you fit.

The goal isn't just to survive the Spotlight search grid.

It's to survive your own grid too.
That's often where the real decision starts.

(Obviously the next click is your reel but that's a whole other post 😁)

GIVE YOURSELF A CHANCE.

Most actors think getting new headshots is the finish line.

In reality, it's the starting point.

If you're trying to change how the industry sees you, your reels, self-tapes, Spotlight profile and submissions all need to support that change too.

The goal is consistency.

Because when a casting director responds to a particular headshot, that image creates an expectation.

The easier it is to maintain that expectation throughout the process, the easier it is for them to keep seeing you in the role.

Actors spend a huge amount of time worrying about reels.

And rightly so.

But reels are not the first stage of the casting process.

Your headshot is.

When casting is reviewing submissions, they aren't starting by watching reels.

They're looking at headshots and deciding who to investigate further.

Only then do they click.

Only then do they watch.

Only then does your reel get the opportunity to do its job.

That's why so many actors end up solving the wrong problem.

They spend months tweaking reels that hardly anyone is watching because the headshots aren't doing their job.

Your reel proves it.

Your headshot earns the chance to prove it.

The sequence matters.

Headshot β†’ Reel β†’ Self-Tape β†’ Face-to-Face Audition

Get the first step wrong and the rest may never happen.

No click = no reel.

GET A STRATEGY.
GIVE YOURSELF A CHANCE.
