AURAEHAIR

I shot this almost 2 years ago and realised I’d only ever shared one image from the shoot.

is my younger sister’s hair brand, and this was one of the studio shoots we created for the brand.

Looking back at the images now, it’s interesting seeing how my approach to studio photography has changed since then.

Some work deserves a second look.

I realised recently that I’ve never properly shared the story behind this shoot.

This was created as part of The Photography Foundation ’s commercial photography training programme. As part of the programme, I was challenged to find a client and respond to a real commercial brief.

I chose ATAI , my twin sister’s clothing brand, which was launching a new line at the time.

The project gave me the opportunity to think beyond simply creating good images and consider how photography could respond to a brand, a client and a commercial objective.

Looking back, it was an important step in how I started thinking about photography as more than just making pictures.

African-inspired clothing designed for the modern business individual.

A few moments from the studio lighting & headshots workshop at the The Photography Foundation

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to lead a hands-on workshop exploring studio lighting and headshot photography.

We covered the basics of working with studio lights, positioning your subject, shaping the light and, most importantly, understanding why you might make one lighting decision over another.

What I enjoyed most was seeing everyone get behind the camera and put it into practice.

Teaching has also reminded me that you don’t need to know everything before you can share what you’re learning.

I’m still experimenting, still making mistakes and still figuring out my own approach to light, but being able to help someone else understand it a little better is something I’m really grateful for.

Happy Independence Day, Nigeria. 🇳🇬

There are some shoots that mean a little more to me simply because of what they represent.

Photographing as Miss Petite Global Nigeria was one of them.

We created two looks for the shoot, an evening gown and sash, followed by traditional Igbo attire.

Two very different expressions, but both telling a story about identity, representation and how we choose to show up.

As a Nigerian, being able to photograph a woman representing Nigeria is something I’m genuinely proud to have been part of.

Happy 66th Independence Day, Nigeria. 🇳🇬

Here’s to the people, stories, cultures and identities that continue to make Nigeria what she is.

You really don’t need that much to make a good image.

For this shot, I used one small LED light, the environment around me and the last bit of daylight.

The location was doing a lot of the work already…the blue sky, the city lights, the stairs, the darkness around the subject. I just needed to figure out how to light the person without losing all of that.

And the edit?

Pretty minimal.

Swipe through to see the setup, the raw image vs. the final and a few other shots from the same lighting setup.

Sometimes the biggest difference isn’t better equipment. It’s making better decisions with what you already have.
