An awards evening is about more than the moment someone receives their award.

For the Falk Foundation / Guts UK Awards, we interviewed the winners about what the recognition means to them personally and professionally, and brought those conversations together with footage from the ceremony and the evening itself.

Here’s the finished highlights film from June’s event at Hope Street Hotel in Liverpool, our fourth time working on these awards.

A film to celebrate this year’s winners and help future applicants see what being part of it could mean for them.

A look back at our work helping Hashtag House develop its studio for football discussion, watch-alongs and recorded videos 🎥

We started with a consultancy visit and a detailed guide covering cameras, microphones, lighting, live streaming and editing, making the most of the equipment they already owned.

We then returned to help install and set up the cameras and microphones, connect the audio mixer to the video switcher, and show the team how to operate it all.

That included bringing live score graphics into the shows and using separate camera recordings to refine the edit afterwards and create shorter clips.

The aim was a practical workflow the team could use themselves, from setting up a show to working with the recordings afterwards.

A look back at some of our conference recording work for The Exams Office and NAEO 🎥

Over the years, these projects took us to venues, stadiums and arenas across the country, including The Oval, Coventry Building Society Arena and Old Trafford.

Our team recorded the keynote presentations in the main hall, while smaller production units captured seminars and breakout sessions running at the same time.

We also filmed short exhibitor interviews, giving suppliers a chance to demonstrate their products. Those films joined the session recordings as on-demand content for the virtual conference.

The kit changed over the years, but the aim stayed the same: clear pictures and sound, with the presentation material included so people could follow along afterwards.

Your audience should remember the event, not a technical problem.

A lot of the work that keeps a production running smoothly happens before anyone takes their seat.

Spare cameras and microphones. A backup mixing desk. Recordings saved in more than one place. Alternative internet connections for live streams.

The right backup depends on the job. Knowing how to switch to it quickly and calmly matters just as much as having it there.

That preparation also helps with reasonable changes on the day. An extra slide or an adjustment to the running order is easier to accommodate when you’ve thought ahead.

Our aim is to handle technical issues quietly behind the scenes, keeping the event moving while speakers and guests concentrate on what they came for.

A look back at helping Brabners develop its in-house podcast studio 🎙️

The brief was to help teams across the business produce their own audio and video content.

We started by reviewing the space, the equipment they already had and how they wanted to use it. From there, we produced a detailed consultancy report with tailored advice and equipment recommendations.

We then returned to install and set up the new equipment, followed by practical training in recording sound and video, editing, finishing and distributing their podcasts.

It was about giving the team a workflow they could use themselves, from setting up the microphones to getting the finished episode ready to share.

A look back to June and our fourth time supporting the Dr Falk/Guts UK Awards 🎥

This year brought us to Liverpool’s Hope Street Hotel, working with our partners at Event Squared.

We supplied and ran the sound throughout the evening, recorded the full ceremony with multiple cameras, and filmed winner interviews and event footage for the highlights film. Event Squared handled the presentations and videos on the screens.

The roof terrace made a lovely setting to hear what winning meant to people, with Liverpool’s cathedral as the backdrop. And on a very hot day, the air-conditioned awards room was especially welcome!

A makeup masterclass is all about the detail 🎥

Yesterday we supported Enya Doherty and Ellie Parkhurst at their Liverpool masterclass, providing live close-up camera pictures for two big screens so guests could follow the demonstrations.

We also supplied the PA, with wireless headset microphones for the sessions and a wireless handheld for audience Q&A. Clear pictures and sound, helping everyone follow each technique and explanation.

Back on the Paul Smith “Happy” tour last week 🎥

This time, at Birmingham’s NIA, working alongside dwmedia and UK Events Group.

From rigging the cameras to mixing the live pictures and graphics for the two big screens, our role covered both the setup and the show.

A main camera at the back, a wide angle on stage and two remotely operated cameras catching the audience reactions. Plenty to watch when the crowd becomes part of the comedy!

Behind the cameras at Rookery Hall 🎥

Last Tuesday we were filming the launch of airwave connect, a company specialising in TV and AV systems, digital signage and Wi-Fi networks for hotels, businesses and healthcare settings.

Our crew covered presentations in the main room throughout the day, alongside breakout sessions in rooms across the site.

Multi-camera presentation recordings, breakout activities and the conversations in between, with plenty to capture for a highlights film showing the people and atmosphere of the day.
