I say it so often, but Wednesday nights at L’Aperitivo Liverpool and suonoliverpool are special. There’s just something else happening there. Total contrast between upstairs and down, yet it magically works to raise and connect both rooms. Whether it’s dropping some Barry Can’t Swim, or leighton leading Terhile & The Finite Experience, the reality is that what really happens is music and togetherness.

I often say that through my sobriety I’ve achieved dreams that I never thought could be dreams, and yesterday’s launch of Lu’s wonderful poetry collection “Translucent” was another of those moments. A few months ago Lu asked me if I would be interested in creating a cover image for the book, and I instantly agreed.

The plan was to grab a drink, and then wander around Liverpool on a Saturday morning taking a few photographs so that Lu could use them to hone what she wanted for her cover for the second shoot which would actually be to create the cover. Well didn’t need the second shoot.

One of the reasons I love to shoot multiple exposure images is the impossibility to go out and recreate them. You can make something similar, don’t get me wrong, but you’re not going to get the six frames identical to repeat it. And I can’t be sure what tree in St James’ Garden we used either.

If you can, always choose to create art where possible and however you choose to do so. A piece of art can become a product, but if you’re only thinking about the product, you won’t create art.

Lu, thank you! Now for the next dream to surprise me…
