SHE ONLY WENT AND WON!

We are absolutely over the moon to share that our very own Celia has been named Individual of the Year at the 2026 Highlands and Islands Thistle Awards!

Anyone who knows Celia knows just how much heart, energy and determination she puts into everything she does. From the early days of Blyde Welcome to the busy coffee shop it is today, she’s worked tirelessly to create somewhere that’s about so much more than good coffee and cake. It’s about people, community and making everyone feel welcome.

And while Celia would be the first to say that none of it would be possible without the wonderful team around her, we think it’s about time she got a little recognition for everything she does!

It was an extra special evening for Shetland, with
Shetland Seabird Tours - The Noss Boat and SeabirdsandSeals - The Original Noss Boat taking home awards across the categories! What a brilliant night and a wonderful reminder of just how much talent we have at home.

We were also delighted to share our table with the lovely team from No88 Kitchen and Bar. It made the evening even more enjoyable having fellow Shetlanders alongside us to celebrate!

We’re incredibly proud of Celia and so grateful to everyone who has supported Blyde Welcome along the way.

A huge congratulations to all the other finalists and winners. What a wonderful evening celebrating the very best of hospitality and tourism across the Highlands and Islands.

Celia Smith, founder of Blyde Welcome, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Highlands and Islands Thistle Awards in the Individual of the Year category.

Ms Smith’s passion for hospitality started when she was still at school, and has grown from waitering to founding Shetland’s foremost training provider for the hospitality, tourism and retail industry.

Celia will be attending the awards ceremony in Inverness this October.

📸 A great visit to UHI Shetland's Scalloway campus yesterday, where I had the opportunity to meet Jim Fairlie SNP and hear more about the innovative work being done in sustainable aquaculture and shellfish production.

UHI Shetland welcomed Jim Fairlie MSP, Minister for Agriculture, Marine and the Islands, to its Scalloway campus on Monday 10 August to discuss sustainable aquaculture, shellfish innovation and the future of Scotland’s seafood sector.
