Why hire a Black photographer?

Not because Black photographers are the only people who can photograph Black people.

But because who’s behind the camera matters too.

Our experiences shape what we notice, the questions we ask, how we make people feel and ultimately, how we tell their story.

For me, inclusive photography is about creating images where you can look at yourself and think: yeah, that’s actually me.

Not someone else’s idea of what you should look like. 🤎

Hi, I’m still here 👋🏾😂

There are lots of new faces around here lately, so hiiii, welcome 🖤

Life behind the scenes is currently a *little* chaotic. I shot 7 days last week, I’m drowning slightly in edits + admin AND I’m currently moving house alongside the usual toddler chaos. So if I’ve been quieter on here… that’s why 😂

But hi, I’m Leesha 👋🏾 Photographer, filmmaker, visual artist and owner of several businesses because apparently I enjoy giving myself things to do.

💒 Weddings + people in love:
🖤 Brands, founders + businesses:
🎬 Film + art:
🫶🏾 Families + maternity:

AND the KBL diary is reopening for new family sessions NEXT WEEK 👀

Basically, I love people, stories and making images that actually *feel* like something.

For now, hi. I’m alive. Just surrounded by cardboard boxes, hard drives and SD cards 😂🖤

Leave your shame at the door, she says. The room did and they loved it!

Angel straight off 90 minutes of The Pum Pum Diaries, still buzzing, telling us how the crowd took it.

Comedy first. Then something else entirely.

Your brand photos shouldn’t just look good. They should actually be doing something.

Building trust. Showing your personality. Making the right people feel like they’ve found their person. Showing what it feels like to work with you before they’ve even sent an enquiry.

So when we plan your shoot, we’re not just thinking “what photos do you need?”

We’re thinking about what you need those photos to say. 👀

That’s the difference between a folder of nice photos and an actual brand library.

When Cherish first approached me about shooting for JK Heritage, one of the things that stood out immediately was the sense of community at the heart of the brand.

For me, heritage isn’t just about where we come from. It’s in the places we gather, the music we grew up around, the people who came before us, the things we pass down and all those little cultural references that instantly feel like home.

That’s why shooting around Brixton felt so important. From the streets to the record stores, we wanted to photograph JK Heritage in spaces that have played such a huge part in Black British culture and community.

We also leaned into nostalgia throughout the shoot, including shooting on film. There’s something about the texture, imperfection and feeling of film that felt perfect for a brand centred around heritage. It allowed the images to feel less like something simply created for now and more like something that could have existed before us and hopefully still mean something after us.

As a Black photographer, shoots like this always feel particularly special. Being able to create work that celebrates our culture, our communities and the spaces that have held so much of our history will never be lost on me. 🖤

So much love to Cherish and the whole JK Heritage team for trusting me with this one.

Booked your branding shoot? A little prep goes a LONG way 👀

Think about where your photos are actually going to be used, the different sides of your business you want to show and what you might need over the next few months — not just what looks cute on shoot day.

And please don’t spend the night before practising poses in the mirror 😂 That bit is my job.

Save this for your next shoot + head to the Onyx blog for the full prep guide 📸

Your brand photos have landed… now don’t let them sit in a folder gathering digital dust 😂

Your website, socials, emails, ads, launches, PR, podcast features, speaker profiles — one shoot can give you content to use EVERYWHERE.

The goal isn’t just to give you gorgeous photos.

It’s to give you a bank of images that actually work for your business. 📸

POV: you want headshots that actually look like YOU.
Not stood against a white wall.
Not awkwardly holding a laptop.
Not pretending to laugh at absolutely nothing 😭

Just you, looking unreal, somewhere beautiful, with photos that actually feel like they belong on your website, your socials AND your brand.

Because professional doesn’t have to mean boring.
Your brand deserves better than a corporate headshot x

Representation isn’t just about who’s in front of the camera. It’s about how they’re photographed too.

Accurate skin tones matter. You shouldn’t have to look lighter, washed out or completely different just because of someone’s editing style.

Every skin tone deserves to be captured properly, intentionally and beautifully. 🤎
