Would your clients recognise you from your LinkedIn headshot? 🤔

Be honest...

If your profile photo is from a time when your hairstyle was different, your glasses have changed, or your children were still at primary school... it might be time for an update.

There's nothing wrong with changing as we mature, but your headshot should still look like the person who's about to walk into the meeting.

A professional headshot isn't about looking younger or more glamorous.

It's about looking like you; confident, approachable and current.

⭐️My Mini Branding Sessions⭐️ are designed to make updating your headshot quick, relaxed and surprisingly enjoyable.

📸 Book before the end of September and I'll include 2 extra digital images at no extra cost.

Let's make sure the person who turns up for the meeting matches the one on LinkedIn!

This afternoon I welcomed the wonderful Philippa to my studio for her Portrait Reveal!

I am delighted to tell you that choosing her favourites was an absolute nightmare, as she loved so many of them 😁 (sorry, not sorry... ☺️)

She brought along her beautiful daughter, for the drive and moral support, and it was lovely catching up with Pip, and finding out what she has been doing over the summer.

She left with a high end product on order, which will beautifully showcases her 50 Over 50 Amazing Women Project portraits!

I cannot wait to get the Folio Box to her...

How old is your current headshot? Is it a celebration of the 80s and 90s, and means no one recognises you from it?

If you have to stop and think about it... it's probably time for an update!

Your headshot is often the first impression people have of you on LinkedIn, your website and across social media. If it no longer reflects who you are or where your business is today, it could be doing you a disservice.

That's why I've created Mini Branding Sessions: a quick, relaxed way to refresh your professional image without taking hours out of your day.

📸 Book before the end of September and receive 2 additional digital images at no extra cost.

And if you think I only photograph women... think again!

I work with men and women who want authentic, professional images that help them stand out for all the right reasons.

If you're ready for a headshot that actually looks like you (today!), let's chat.

I think we've confused being visible with simply being seen!

They're not the same thing.

Being visible is easy:

✅Post more.
✅Network more.
✅Show up more.
✅Be everywhere!

At least that's what we're told.

But I've photographed enough people over the last 23 years to know something different:

Some of the most visible people I meet don't actually feel seen at all!

They're hiding behind a polished profile picture.
Behind carefully chosen words.
Behind a successful business.
Behind the belief that they need to become "more" before they deserve to be noticed.

Then there are the people who quietly walk into my studio convinced they aren't photogenic.

Who apologise before we've even started.
Who tell me they don't like being in front of the camera.

They think they're afraid of photographs, but most of the time, they aren't!

💡They're afraid of judgement.
💡They're afraid of not being enough.

And that's a very different thing.

I've come to know my work isn't really about helping people become more visible.

💡 It's about helping them stop hiding!

The photographs are simply the evidence of what has changed.

Perhaps that's true beyond photography too!

Maybe the next step isn't asking ourselves "How can I be more visible?"

Maybe it's asking...

💡 "Why am I still hiding?"

Would I wish to change anything about this image?

The pose? No.
The fact her eyes are closed? No.
The laughter instead of a carefully practised smile? Definitely not!

❤️There is absolutely nothing to change!❤️

In fact, this portrait is perfect!

Why?

Because it isn't just a photograph of Kiri.

It's a photograph of...

🥰Her joy.
🥰Her laughter.
🥰Her spirit.

When I first showed this image to Kiri, I know she wasn't quite sure why I loved it so much.

So I told her why:

I lost my mum when she was only 50. I was just 21.

When I inherited all of her photographs, the ones I found myself returning to over and over again weren't the glamorous portraits.

I treasure those too, because they remind me of the beautiful woman she was.

But the photographs that truly stop me in my tracks are the ones where I can see her spirit.

The ones where she's laughing.

The ones where I can almost hear that wonderful, unapologetic booming laugh that filled a room.

Those photographs don't just remind me what she looked like.

They remind me "who" she was.

I think that really resonated with Kiri, because she's a mum herself.

So for this second (and final!) sneaky peek from her session, I wanted to share this moment.

A moment of genuine, uncontrollable laughter over something incredibly silly that I said...

Because a portrait session with me is never just about creating glamorous photographs.

Those are wonderful, and we'll absolutely create them.

But what I'm really looking for is you!

📸The smile your family recognises.
📸The laugh your children will remember.
📸The expression that says, "That's her."

Those are the photographs that become priceless...

Come and celebrate the woman you are today: not by becoming someone else, but by reconnecting with the person you've always been!

Because one day, the people who love you won't just want to remember how you looked.

They'll want to remember who you are!

✨ If you're a woman aged 50 or over, I'd love you to be part of the 50 Over 50 Amazing Women Project!✨

I was so chuffed to see this come up on the Newsletter!

Kiri of Elite Lifestyle Medicine Ltd submitted her portrait and details about working with me, as we are both SBS winners, and the piece was published in this month's newsletter.

It celebrates not only the experience of Kiri's 50 Over 50 Amazing Women Project, but also the power of collaboration and of working with other winners we meet, in this amazing community.

(It is also always surreal to read about myself and to see my work featured in anything!)

Thank you to SBS Small Business Sunday and to the wonderful Kiri for sharing this.

I am sure many people wonder why I often talk about my health, and recent challenges, on a business profile.

Fair question. This is my professional page. I am a photographer.

What does a hospital stay have to do with portraits and branding photography?

Quite a lot, actually.

Before I became ill, I was great at my job.

I knew how to light a face, how to guide a pose, how to make someone laugh at the right moment.

The technical side was solid.

The customer service was solid.

The human connections I made were real.

But lying in a hospital bed for ten weeks, unable to wash my own hair, dreaming about making my own coffee and walking into the sea... that changed something in how I see people.

I came home with a different understanding of what it means to feel invisible.

To look in the mirror and not recognise yourself.

To wonder whether the person you were before still exists somewhere.

And that is exactly the feelings so many of my clients carry into the studio...

Not all of them, for sure.

But more than you would think.

Women who have been through illness, trauma, loss, burnout, or simply years of putting themselves last.

Women who feel like they have disappeared a little.

When someone sits in front of my camera and says "I don't feel like myself anymore," I understand that sentence differently now.

I am not sharing my recovery story for sympathy.

I am sharing it because it speaks to "empathy" instead, and it is one of the reasons my clients have always trusted me.

And now they read about the hospital, the haircut, the ordinary Sundays I am grateful for, and they think: "she understands".

They are right.

I do, more than ever!

When people book a branding photoshoot, they often think they're simply investing in the photographs...

The truth is, the photographs are only the end result.

What makes a difference is how you feel throughout the experience.

None of the people I photograph are models.

They're business owners, professionals and entrepreneurs who simply want to be seen as themselves.

They often arrive saying things like, "I'm awkward in front of the camera," or "I never know what to do."

That's where my job really begins.

Before I even pick up my camera, I've already spent time getting to know you, your business, your goals and how you want people to feel when they discover you.

We plan the locations, the outfits, the story your images need to tell, so when the day arrives you're never left wondering what comes next.

As Liz Bell shared, after her photo shoot:

"The care and attention that you provide before a picture is taken meant that you had a clear vision of exactly what you were looking to achieve on the day... you were precise with your direction... a clear demonstration of your experience and professionalism."

That means a great deal to me!

Because I don't see the people I photograph as merely clients.

I see people who have trusted me to represent something they've worked incredibly hard to build.

My role isn't just to take flattering photographs.

It's to help you relax, guide you into natural poses, direct you every step of the way, and create an experience where you can stop worrying about how you look and simply concentrate on being yourself.

And yes... we usually laugh quite a lot along the way too!

📸 I'm currently booking Personal Branding Mini Sessions, and until the end of September each session includes a bonus of TWO additional digital images at no extra cost.

If you've been thinking it's time your business had photographs that genuinely reflect who you are, I'd love to chat.

Lifestyle Personal Branding: When Your Images Need Room to Speak!

Not every personal branding session is about looking straight down the lens.

When Liz came to me for her latest branding shoot, she was in the middle of a rebrand and wanted something completely different from the polished headshots we'd created before.

This time, she wanted her photographs to feel organic, natural and relaxed.

That meant only a handful of traditional outdoors headshots.

Then, we created images that told a story.

We chose the beautiful surroundings of Roadford Lake, where the woodland paths, soft summer light and rich greens became part of the visual narrative.

Liz arrived with several carefully chosen outfits, and I brought along a wide-brimmed hat to add another relaxed, lifestyle element to the photographs.

One of the biggest considerations was creating negative space.

In photography, negative space simply means leaving room around the subject.

It isn't "empty" space at all; it's valuable space!

It gives you somewhere to add website headings, social media quotes, marketing messages or text overlays without covering the subject.

Images like these work incredibly well across websites, blogs and social media because they're designed with marketing in mind, not just aesthetics.

Everything was planned beforehand during Liz's pre-session consultation: a service I include with every portrait and personal branding session.

It's where we discuss your business, your audience, how you'll use the images and the feeling you want your brand to communicate.

Liz also brought a friend along to act as a stand-in client for some coaching photographs. If that surprises you... don't be shocked! Most personal branding shoots include someone playing the role of a client.

It creates authentic-looking interaction and shows people exactly how you work.

The result?

A collection of colourful, relaxed, story-led images that fit perfectly with Liz's new branding and upcoming website.

If you're thinking your own branding photography should do more than simply give you a new headshot, I'd love to help.
