Well we are are back and feel rejuvenated after two weeks doing absolutely nothing except eat, drink, read, walk, swim and sleep.

Thank you to for a fabulous stay! The staff were so welcoming, the food was bountiful (missing my eggs Benedict) and it was wonderful just to slow down and relax.

With all the recent discussion around the new adaptation of Wuthering Heights starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, and the divided opinions it has sparked. I found myself reflecting on what the novel truly means to me.

Ten years ago, I attended a Compelling Portraiture training course in the Yorkshire Dales at Ponden Hall, a historic farmhouse near Stanbury in West Yorkshire. Ponden Hall is widely believed to have inspired Thrushcross Grange, home of the Linton family in the novel. Emily Brontë was a frequent visitor to the area, and you can still feel that literary atmosphere there today.

The course, led by  Mendelsohn, focused on creating evocative portraits inspired by the world of the Brontës in Haworth. It was an unforgettable experience that shaped how I think about storytelling through portraiture.

I’ve shared the blog post link in the comments that I wrote at the time, along with some of my favourite images from those two days, a personal return to the heart of a story that continues to inspire.

Why I’ve Been a Little Quieter (and What’s Coming Next)

If you’ve noticed I’ve been a bit quieter over recent months, I promise I haven’t disappeared — life has just been rather full.

Last year was a real mix of highs and lows. We said goodbye to our much-loved dog, Reggie, I dealt with a health wobble (now thankfully much improved), and alongside steady, lovely work, we decided to finally take on a long-planned house renovation. Images show finished extension and hallway followed by “before” photos.

Cue builders, decisions, delays (my fault for choosing a bespoke colour for the glazing!)… and a lot of dust. Many thanks to Gosia and the team at and

While work with my regular corporate clients, branding sessions and nurseries continued, much of my creative energy shifted into turning our house where we’ve lived for 30 years into a space that works for the next chapter of both life and business.

The build is now complete, the garden views are glorious, and I’m feeling well, rested and creatively re-energised.

This year, I’m excited to be developing something new: small personal branding shoots from home, with everything beautifully set up and ready to go.

So yes, quieter online, but very busy behind the scenes. And very excited about what’s next.

The nursery summer photoshoots have now finished and the last of the orders are being processed.

I have been very grateful for good weather for my outside shoots with only one day of rain.

Love it when the children are very determined on what they want to wear and this little one loves her cowboy boots! She also brought a flower from home.

Looking forward to a few weeks off to be back mid August to get ready for the autumn photoshoots.

I hold my Mini Branding Photo sessions twice a year in Surbiton and l was just looking through the images from my last session in October with which I haven’t shown before but doesn’t she look amazing. I remember when she turned up in this vibrant yellow suit and I thought “WOW!”

My next Mini Branding photo session is taking place on 30th April and includes a pre shoot prep Zoom meeting, 40 minute shoot, 10 retouched images and I now only have ONE slot available.

A few weeks ago I shared images on LinkedIn (yet to share on here) from a photoshoot with Susan Rahman which was to provide imagery for her new brand .It was an absolute pleasure working with Susan and to create a set of professional images that truly reflect her evolving role and her new brand.

In addition to the main brief Susan needed imagery that aligned with the more official and authoritative presence she wanted to establish in the auditing side of her accounting business KWSR, something that would complement her expertise and the trust she builds with clients.

During this part of the shoot, we focused on creating a polished yet approachable look, ensuring that the visuals matched the high standards of her work. From subtle yet impactful poses to carefully considered styling, the goal was to craft an image library that Susan could use across her website, social media, and professional materials.

Branding isn’t just about logos and colour palettes—it’s also about the person behind the business. Professional imagery plays a crucial role in shaping first impressions and building trust, especially in industries like auditing, where authority and reliability are key.

Susan opted for the three-hour brand shoot, knowing she needed a versatile bank of imagery to reflect the different areas of her business. This was easily one of my favourite shoots from last year, and I’ll be sharing more about it in an upcoming blog post—so keep an eye out!

If you’re considering a brand photoshoot but aren’t sure where to start, I’d love to help. Feel free to book a 1:1 Zoom call, and I can guide you through what you’ll need to bring your vision to life.

A huge thank you to for her incredible work on the new brand look, and to for her expert image styling and support on the day—it made all the difference!

One of the most rewarding aspects of my photography is working with corporate businesses, whether it’s solicitors, accountants, recruitment firms, or SMEs. I particularly enjoy my job when a new challenge arises with one of my regular corporate clients.

I have had the pleasure of working with for several years. My connection with them dates back over 30 years, when I was their client while purchasing my home. Later, through my local Athena women’s networking group with , I was commissioned around a decade ago to take their professional headshots.

Over the years, I have returned for various shoots, but last year marked a significant milestone. Claire Darby and Emma Rothstein took over the firm’s leadership, undertaking a full rebrand and launching a new website. Although Donald Morrison remains in the firm until April, this refresh symbolised a new chapter with Claire and Emma at the helm.

As part of the rebrand, their brand/website designers provided a visual brief that emphasised approachability while maintaining professionalism. Moving away from traditional plain backgrounds, I suggested a demo shoot to experiment with different environmental settings. This approach ensured that on the actual shoot day, we had a clear plan, allowing me to efficiently select the best backdrops for each individual while optimising my lighting, shutter speed, and aperture for various locations.

Claire was also kind enough to share a recommendation, for which I am truly grateful.

"Annie has been doing our company headshots for many years now and they are always brilliant. She has a great way of putting people at ease and getting the best photos from everyone. Many people comment "I don't usually like my photo but these are lovely". We had a new website done in 2024 and the headshots from Annie were the perfect addition. I would highly recommend Annie for anyone looking for a headshot or other images for their branding, which she has also done for us."
