This weekend is the LAST TIME you'll be able to check out my exhibition of photographs from the Being Serafina project, at the lovely Books on the Rise in Richmond.

Made in collaboration with friend and collaborator Tricia Duffy, the twelve images line up with the twelve tracks on her new album of the same name.

Whilst you are there, you can also pick up a copy of the album AND peruse the amazingly curated selection of books the shop has available.

Most of last summer was spent photographing and producing a new interdisciplinary project called 'Being Serafina'.

Singer/Songwriter Tricia Duffy had asked if I wanted to shoot the cover for an album she was working on based on the play 'The Rose Tattoo', by Tennessee Williams. Her album takes the character of Serafina and traces her emotional trajectory from joyful expectant wife, through grief at the loss of both her husband and unborn child, to self-doubt at the discovery of an affair, lust, gossip and her eventual rebuilding and re-emergence into the world.

Having heard the early demos of the record, I suggested making an image for each song. Duffy's early research into her project had drawn upon method acting as a writing tool, and I felt that the collaborative making of a photo for each song could be a continuation of that exploration.

It has been an amazing project to shoot, and I am really proud of this body of work.

A few singles from the album are already on Spotify (or wherever you get your music) but the full album isn't out until 12th June. To hear the album early AND see the first exhibition of the full set of photographs, come along to the 'Pre-Release Listening Party' at Books On The Rise, in Richmond on 28th May.

There will be an introduction to the album, an end-to-end playing of a vinyl pressing of the record, and opportunities to hear more about the project. Plus you can bring drinks in from the tiny pub next door!

Get tickets here... https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/being-serafina-a-launch-party-with-little-lore-tickets-1985639821157

The exhibition will be on show for a few weeks after the event.

An exclusive launch of Little Lore's upcoming album 'Being Serafina' with a vinyl listening party, photography exhibition and signing!

Emma - Six Years In

Emma’s sons were three, six, and eight years old when her husband Tom died in 2019. When we later became friends through Widowed and Young, and she heard about this project, I assured her I wouldn’t ask her to be in it. Like many, Emma isn’t particularly comfortable with posing for a photograph.

This portrait was taken at Hampton Wick Royal Cricket Club. The clubhouse isn’t far from Emma’s home and has been a constant presence for key moments in her life: In 2018, ever the champion of organised fun, Tom used the space to bring together friends and family from around the country for a surprise party for Emma. After he died, Emma gathered many of the same people back here for Tom’s wake. It is where their son Matthew plays cricket, Tom’s hat shielding him from the heat of the English summer and the pavilion protecting him from the inevitable rain.

As widows, we often find it hard to let go of things that belonged to, or remind us of our loved ones until the time feels right. It can be years before we can bring ourselves to move their shoes from the front door, give away their clothes, or finally throw away their toothbrush. There are times though, when things that we hold on to as a permanent reminder of them are just taken away by the passing of time, or the realities of fate. Things break, get lost, or we simply have to let go before we are ready.

In Autumn 2023, the cricket club burnt down, and now all that remains is the concrete slab it once stood upon. A tear in the fabric of the community as a whole was a very personal loss for Emma. It was through contemplating this new absence and what it might mean that led her to ask me to take her portrait here. To commemorate Tom and their link to the club, the quiet strength we draw on in grief to accept the reality of change, and the foundations of the new life we’re building together.

Now and then I get what feels like a one-of-a-kind commission, and photographing Jesse at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance was one of them.

My big regret of this shoot is not bringing my audio recorder with me. I asked Jesse to play whilst I worked on making images around him.

The next hour or so was some of the most incredible musicianship I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing up close. As the sun went down outside, the room was filled with classical, jazz, and moments of the blues. It washed over me as I photographed, my daughter sat with Jesse’s mum. Listening and talking quietly about schools and GCSEs.

Over a year ago, I had the opportunity to create a distinctive headshot for the EVP of Tempur Sealy International, using one of their own signature mattress covers as a backdrop—an image that blended brand identity with portraiture.

Fast forward to last month, and I was back, this time capturing a broader cross-section of their international leadership team during a networking and training event in London.

In this post, I’ll share how I recreated the original portrait setup, navigated the logistical quirks of a mobile studio, and documented a fast-paced, energising day of corporate connection that included analogue snapshots and playground games.

When it comes to headshots I love to make the background relevant. Corporate headshots need not be boring, and posing against a white, black or otherwise plain background is a missed opportunity to embed within the image a hint towards the brand of the company you work for or the ethos and attitude you want to project.

Last week I got to shoot Thomas Wiltshire, Founder of Blue Shed HR, and with the company name based on his style of home office there was no better backdrop to use than the shed itself.

When used on LinkedIn and other social media sites coloured backgrounds on headshots really help the image stand out.

It was fun working with Tom and showed that a simple concept can be really effective. I wish him the best with his new venture and look forward to working with him again in the future.

I had a great time this weekend shooting with John at Primo Banjo to help him get his new brand off the ground.

Although I work with some large corporate customers it's always the small businesses and entrepreneurs working with passion to innovate in their space that are the most interesting to shoot for.

And it's always nice to get a good review in return. 👊
