Captured above the River Hull as the ongoing dredging operations have filled up the smaller dry dock with silted river water to remove the material and then release the clean water back into the river.

This process is crucial to ensure the safe passage of the Arctic Corsair into the dock to the left of this that will become its permanent home.

When one goes up, the other stays down. ๐ŸŸข๐Ÿ”ต

North Bridge and Drypool Bridge span the River Hull.
While Drypool stretches its steel frame into the sky, North Bridge is down below, holding the city together and absorbing the traffic.

Theyโ€™re the ultimate duo, taking turns carrying the weight of the city so the other can take a breather.

Currently, Drypool Bridge is in a permanently lifted position while undergoing vital repair works.

Ongoing dredging operations at the North End Shipyard. As you can see compared to our last visit a couple of weeks ago, the North dock is now full of silt water.

It goes through a cleaning process before clean water is returned to the river. The removed silt product will be removed by road and used in the latest Hull natural skincare range...we joke ๐Ÿ˜‚

Reflections on the River Hull.

Weel Road lift bridge is currently missing. (Unlike this photo) The bridge is undergoing restoration and improvements off-site before it will be returned to operation in July.

On the right, where the rusty vessel sits is the exact spot the then Welton, Cook and Gemmell built and launched many ships, including Hull's last sidewinder, the Arctic Corsair.

Hidden History & Tragedy on Hedon Road.

Did you know that hidden behind the weeds off Hotham Street in East Hull sits one of the city's last remaining World War II communal surface shelters?

Built in 1939 to protect dockworkers and families from the Hull Blitz, this reinforced concrete bunker stood fast through the devastating raids of May 1941.

Look closely at the entrance, those white ceramic bricks were installed to help terrified residents find the doorway in pitch-black wartime blackouts without revealing their position to enemy bombers.

Sadly, the shelter is also a stark reminder of wartime tragedy. On May 8, 1941, German bombers targeted the nearby docks and dropped high explosives directly onto the street. While this concrete structure held, a nearby shelter on Olive Terrace (a row of houses since wiped off the map) took a catastrophic direct hit.

Multiple local residents lost their lives that night, including five members of the Petch family and a five-month-old baby.Today, it stands on Northern Powergrid land as a silent, raw monument to the community that once lived here and the lives lost during Hull's darkest nights.
