This November, those sounds will fill the iconic Usher Hall in Edinburgh as we come together for Scotland’s first Festival of Remembrance.

We’re honoured to welcome:

The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland
The Royal Air Force Central Scotland Pipes and Drums

Alongside live performances from Amy Hawthorn and Scottish Young Artist of the Year, Ben Walker, the evening will bring together music, film and song in a moving tribute to those who have served.

RECRUITMENT: NATIONAL TREASURER

Legion Scotland is seeking an experienced and committed National Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and provide strategic financial leadership to the organisation.

This is an important opportunity for an individual with senior-level experience in finance, accounting or financial management to contribute their expertise to the continued development and financial sustainability of Legion Scotland.

The successful candidate will bring:

• Significant experience in finance, accounting or financial management
• Strong understanding of financial governance, risk management and financial reporting
• The ability to interpret financial information and provide clear advice and oversight
• Experience contributing at Board or senior leadership level
• A commitment to supporting Scotland’s Armed Forces community

Previous experience as a charity trustee is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from individuals with the appropriate professional experience who are interested in making a meaningful contribution to our organisation and the people we support.

We are incredibly proud to announce Scotland’s Festival of Remembrance 2026, taking place at the iconic Usher Hall in Edinburgh on Saturday 7 November.

Presented by Royal British Legion Scotland in association with this very special evening will bring people together through music, film and song to remember, reflect and pay tribute to all those who have served.

This year’s Festival will have a special focus on Afghanistan, telling the stories of those who served there and culminating in the Act of Remembrance.

will remember we were gifted a very special bear last year who had returned from Russia on an Arctic Convoy. Incredibly, we have now been able to add a second teddy to our collection. His name is Snow Ted and his story is remarkable in its similarities.

Snow Ted was brought back from Murmansk by Merchant Seaman Eric Maystan Dunstan Young for his cousin Sheila, who was only 2 at the time. Eric was a steward on the S.S. Hartelbury and acquired this bear when he arrived in Russia with PQ11 in February 1942. On his safe return to London, he presented it to his little cousin.

Eric returned to the Hartlebury, which sailed in June 1942 as part of PQ17. The Hartlebury was attacked on 7th July 1942 by U-355 and sunk. Eric managed to escape the sinking ship in a lifeboat, but died just hours later of his injuries and exposure. He was quietly slipped over the side into the ocean aged just 21 years. His service is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial.

Eric's cousin Sheila, now in her 80s, has treasured Snow Ted all her life and reports that he has been with her through three marriages and seven house moves. It has been a great wrench for her to part with him, but she wanted him to be looked after into the future. He and his story will become a treasured part of the museum's collection.

SCOTLAND'S VETERANS, WE NEED YOUR HELP

According to Scotland's 2022 Census, there are 172,000 veterans living in Scotland but only 13,000 are currently identified as veterans on GP IT systems.

We're asking veterans across Scotland to help change that.

THIS SATURDAY: Minden Day Parade (Saturday 1st August) commemorates the Battle of Minden in 1759, when the local regiment fought against the French. 💂

Legend says soldiers plucked flowers from hedgerows on the way to the battle, and now the local regiment/veterans are presented with a rose, which they wear when parading from The Barracks, along Walkergate and down to the Guildhall
The parade will leave Berwick Barracks at 12.30pm.

It is an impressive sight to see the old KOSB members marching with the band leading, and the presentation of roses at Berwick Barracks, followed by a march through the town (Parade, Walkergate, Marygate, Guildhall, Church Street, Parade), with a salute taken by the Civic party at the Guildhall.

The parade is for KOSB veterans only, but this year, HMS Berwick veterans are due to march too; however, Berwickers and visitors can watch the old and bold of their local Regiment march through their Depot town.
Minden Day Parade will take place on Saturday, 1st August 2026.

Our Chairman, Shaun Carroll had the great honour of laying a wreath here at the Menin Gate back in 2018. An amazing experience of the last post where u can hear a pin drop as we all remember those fallen, 🌺 Lest we forget 🌺

in 1927, the Menin Gate Memorial was officially unveiled in Ypres, Belgium.

Designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield and constructed by the Imperial War Graves Commission (now the Commonwealth War Graves Commission), the Menin Gate stands as one of the most poignant memorials of the First World War.

The memorial commemorates British and Commonwealth servicemen who were killed in the Ypres Salient and whose graves are unknown. Inscribed upon its walls are the names of 54,586 officers and men who have no known resting place, serving as a lasting tribute to their sacrifice.

Following its unveiling, the people of Ypres sought a way to express their gratitude to those who gave their lives for Belgium's freedom. Since 2 July 1928, the Last Post has been sounded beneath the Menin Gate every evening at 8pm by buglers of the Last Post Association.

This daily act of remembrance has continued uninterrupted for almost a century, paused only during the German occupation of Belgium in the Second World War. Even then, the ceremony continued in exile at Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey, England, until it could return to Ypres after liberation.

Today, the Menin Gate remains one of the world's most powerful symbols of remembrance, ensuring that those who gave everything are never forgotten.

They are not missing; they are here.
