There's more to photography than taking the photograph. 📷

Once I've taken an image, there's still the work of reviewing it, experimenting with edits and deciding how I want the final photograph to look.

Even with the same photograph, small changes to exposure, contrast, colour and tone can create quite different results.

I enjoy this part of photography because it gives me the opportunity to explore different approaches and decide which version best captures the feeling I want to convey.

A good website brings everything together. 💻

When two businesses collaborate, their websites play an important role in presenting that partnership clearly and professionally.

The Longo & Co and Cocoa King collaboration was a great example of how a landing page, supporting graphics and product imagery can work together to showcase an offering online.

Every element contributes to the overall experience, helping visitors understand what's being offered, explore the products and connect with the businesses behind them.

It's something I consider when designing websites: not just how they look, but how the layout, content and visuals work together to support the business.

What catches your eye first when you take a photograph? 📱📷

Is it the subject, the light, the colours or the way everything comes together in the frame?

Sometimes a small change in position or perspective can make you see it in a whole new way.

I'm always interested to hear how other photographers approach a scene.

More than the action. A complete story. 📷

Event photography isn't just about capturing what happens on the court. It's also about looking for different angles, interesting details and creative ways to tell the story of an event.

When I photographed the padel tournament in Leeds, I wanted to capture more than the matches themselves. Alongside the action, I looked for different perspectives and details that would add variety to the finished collection.
Behind every gallery is the time spent planning the coverage, photographing the event, reviewing the images and carefully editing the final selection.

A typical two-hour booking can result in around 100–200 edited photographs, depending on the event and what happens on the day.

These images can then be used across social media, websites, marketing materials and future event promotion, giving organisers a collection they can continue to use long after the event has finished.

It's about creating a collection that captures more than what happened, it captures the atmosphere, details and different perspectives that make each event unique.

Good photographs deserve to be reviewed. 📱📷

Photography doesn't have to end when you finish a Photo Walk.

There's plenty more you can learn from the photographs you take afterwards.

1. Photo Walk
Get out with your camera, explore somewhere new and enjoy learning practical tips along the way. Experiment with your settings, try different compositions and see what catches your eye.

2. Photo Review
Once you're home, take a closer look at your photographs. A photo review session gives us time to go through your images together, discuss what works well, what you could try differently and what to look out for next time.

3. Editing
You don't need to spend hours editing your photographs. Simple adjustments to brightness, contrast, colour and cropping can make a real difference.

You might be surprised by what you can achieve with a photograph you've already taken.

You don't have to do all three, and you certainly don't have to share your photographs. It's about enjoying photography, building confidence and feeling proud of the images you create.

A little behind the photograph: Sports Photography 🏃🏃‍♀️📷

A good sports photograph often starts before the action even happens.

When I'm photographing a running event, I'm constantly looking at where to stand, how the light is falling, what's happening in the background and where the runner will be when I press the shutter.

I'm looking for an angle that captures the runner clearly, with a background that adds to the photograph rather than distracts from it.

Then there's timing.

Runners don't pause for the camera, so I need to anticipate their movement, watch how they're approaching and be ready to capture that brief moment when everything comes together.

Sometimes it's the expression on someone's face, the way they move through the landscape or simply the moment they reach a particular point on the course.
Of course, you can't plan for everything. That's part of what makes photographing an ultra race so interesting.

But by observing what's happening around me and making decisions about position, light and timing, I can give myself a better chance of capturing something worth remembering.

The photograph might last a fraction of a second, but the thought behind it starts long before that.

A simple, professional website could make a real difference to your business. 💻

When someone hears about your business or organisation, one of the first things they might do is look you up online.

Is your website giving them the information they need?

Whether you're just starting out, relying on social media to share updates, or using a website that no longer reflects what you do, a simple website could help you showcase your services, share important information and give people a clear way to get in touch.

Free website builders and AI tools can be useful starting points, but an effective website needs to do more than simply exist online. It should present your business clearly, make information easy to find and help visitors feel confident in what you offer.

You don't need a big, complicated website to make a good impression.
For many small businesses, community organisations and sports clubs, a straightforward, professionally designed website with the right information and imagery is an excellent place to start.

The people behind the photographs. ✨

Every organisation has a story, and often, it’s the people behind it who make that story worth telling.

When I photograph events and community organisations, I enjoy capturing more than just what’s happening on the day. It’s about the people involved, the connections they make and the work they do to bring others together.

Photographs can help organisations like HerSpace Evenings-Huddersfield share their work, introduce people to what they do and show the community behind their name.

They also create a visual record of the people and moments that make an organisation what it is.

For me, that's one of the most rewarding parts of photography, helping people and organisations tell their stories through images.

I love volunteering as a photographer at my local Parkrun. 🏃‍♀️🏃🏼‍♂️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️📷

It's great being part of a community and working alongside the volunteers who make it happen every week.

As a photographer, autumn is my favourite season. The colours, the light and seeing how the same place changes throughout the year. 🍂
