Tom Towers - The Old Boys Club, which lived on Stoke Road at the back of Morrisons. I made this photo 12 years ago but it feels like this happened much further back in the history of Hinckley.
I came here as a teenager in the late 1980's and was taught many lessons. One of them was to be really bloody careful when playing football inside because all ages played and the bigger lads didn't think twice about shoulder barging you through the walls!
I once rode a moped there and did a donut on the edge of the grass, to which Reg Green came charging out of the club and smacked me hard in the head, while I was wearing a helmet luckily. Reg took real pride in running The Boys Club and was rightly offended by me doing this, which I never did again!
It may have been called The Boys Club but plenty of girls came along too. It wasn't exclusive but it was absolutely amazing fun and only cost 12p for the whole evening with free pool, free football, free bouncy castle, free table tennis, and a cafe full of treats and drinks.
Did you go as a teenager?

Of course this has now moved around the corner and has advanced in to Green Towers on the edge of Richmond Park.
I'm so glad I threw myself in to photography back then and have recorded a lot of our recent history in Hinckley.
